Soloing Big Elites as mage?

So, basically the title, how it is in reality?
Ok, gear will make it easy etc but let’s take that away for a moment then add something about it as well if needed.

Now my “main” i’m not sure yet is dk’s, blood since Cata but i kinds like Frost and a bit unholy ( since Cata everything changed and it seems they hit like noodles or frost being addicted to random/crit procs to do anything decent which i don’t like it so for now it’s blood dk and unholy) .

So im used to tank everything in the face but as a mage without pet/aggroing pet or healing i think it will be super hard , at least for me and damage wise i feel doing a lot more noodles than my dk,i know scaling is poop or so people say,so is also hard to level by questing because it takes a lot of time where all the other classes,especially survival hunter which deal tons of dmg at lower level,granted my mage now is 34 with some heirlooms that caps at 29/30 but i feel weaker each level i get,still is low level with no gear so, can’t speak there either. ( i can solo those df bosses only with blood,i have no problems with it, i love it and i kinda know what to do( the other two im clueless so can’t speak for their dps/tankiness) .

Any toughts? Please no biased things or meta crap, i don’t care about that in the slightest, i want to just play a class i like.

If they cant be cc’d its difficult. Alter time, shield, ice block heal is all you have. There are times where you invis off aggro and wait for help. 5min bloodlust helps.

If the mob is just a big dumb melee-er and can be slowed, frost will eat it for breakfast. If it can’t be slowed, fire can play the “If I can’t make you slower, I’ll make myself faster” card with Scorch related stuff.

If the mob has more interesting mechanics than just trying to punch you, you may be out of luck or it will be reduced to a DPS race.

I’m not sure if mechanics still allow this, but at least it used to be the case that popping Mirror Image masks your threat for 30 sec (whether they die before that or not), which means that as frost, your pet can be an offtank for that duration… or however long it lives.

Got it, thanks guys, i guess ill try warlock first or continue my hunter which is 62 now, hard choices finding a main :c

And what about frost/unholy dk? So far i struggle soloing big bosses with them and what should i do to get better gear? I’m still 348 ilvl.
