Hi i’m a returning player and want to play solely dps. So was thinking about warlock, mage, rogue and warrior. My criteria:
Performs well in dungeons with dps and raids, has a fun rotation which doesn’t feel clunky.
Strong in pvp
has mobility
Can solo in pvp/ pve
(I’m looking for a allround character, because i can only level one character to max level because of lack of time)
I always played shadowpriest, but hated the lack of mobility. And played druid in classic last year, was the most fun allround spec but felt weak in pvp/ raiding.
I’m gonna make a druid alt for leveling so i can play all roles when i feel like it.
If you need mobility then lets rule Warlock out right away.
It also rules out DK (not that you have it listed, just throwing it out there).
Your first two points are tuning based, there is no reliable way to answer that. The best advice in regards to a class that performs good is a class with at least 2 DPS specs.
I have two classes to recommend you.
The first is Hunter, I would recommend the MM spec to you over BM personally based on how SL is looking.
The second is Warrior, specifically Fury warrior. It’s fine at everything, has decent mobility, and a fluid, smooth rotation.
I think necrolord was the BIS ability for all specs of rogue, so you won’t be in much trouble swapping between specs. You’re strong in both pvp and pve, you have a lot of mobility and you can solo stuff since you can easily evade mobs when you don’t need to.
I made a 120 monk in bfa (had a 7 year break), i didnt like it because of lack of weapons, it just wasnt my class. I loved elemental shaman for raids and mythics though
To my knowledge it’s mostly arena players complaining, and a lot of it could be resolved with number tuning.
I tried Ret and it’s actually visually pleasing and fun. I don’t think it deserves half the hate it gets as a spec, I think there’s specs in much worse states (Fire Mage, Outlaw Rogue, and Surv just to name three)
Agree, Ret looks really pleasing with the gold and wings, but min/ maxing in arena is crucial if you want to get gladiator.
I just want to play casual, but maybe i get competitive again so i dont want to gamble on a spec which might not work. I was in s1 gladiator and s8 2200+ rating as shadowpriest.
Then go check out the US feedback threads and see for yourself if it’s only arena players complaining. Ret is currently in a terrible state due to further pruning (yes) and bad designed conduits. Ret community is being very vocal about it since alpha launch and almost nothing has been done.
There has only been one single “fix” a few weeks ago and it did absolutely not adress any of the spec’s core issues.
Tried them in Beta. A bit squishy’er right at the start, but they quite often are at the start of an expansion.
Things should improve as the expansion progresses and we pick up all the pretty gear I’m sure will be available.
I agree with this. Warrior is the risky one in the OP’s list, because Blizz might just give them a patch where they’re amazing tanks and at best mediocre dps.
With the pure dps classes, one of your specs will always be top tier. That spec might vary, and you might have to change your play style if you want to follow FOTM, but the character itself will always be among the most wanted.
I’ll not defend Blizzards attitude and silence on certain classes, it is bad.
But I don’t think the class is awful.
Most of the main thread is people complaining about GCD’s and mobility. Paladin is not supposed to be a mobile spec, it just isn’t. GCD affects every class.
The other two issues are the new auras and then conduits.
Auras are interesting to me, I understand why old Paladin mains might hate passives turning into choice active auras but to me it is rich Paladin fantasy. They’ll also ensure Paladin spots in a raid environment.
Conduits are valid concerns however they’re one of the finale borrowed power aspects of SL that has yet to really go through a hard tuning pass.
Complaints are valid, however a lot of it comes off more as a wish list opposed to game breaking fundamentals. The class works and it does what it’s supposed to do.
