Some ideas for Hardcore(+?)

Hello everyone. Lost a hc char to a dc issue a month ago and can’t find the drive to keep playing the same game anymore. I have some thoughts that I wanted to share with you here. Wondering your thoughts on these matters as well so please comment. Thank you.

-I play on EU and Stitches and Nek’rosh should be merged first of all. It doesn’t strictly have to be a single server for Europe. Keep the servers but merge them in a crossrealm manner. Single AH, single LFG, everyone can play together etc. It’s getting harder and harder to form dungeon groups, find stuff on AH etc. This should be a priority imo.

-Daze mechanic while mounted should be removed. If I could transfer one thing from retail this would be it. Not much to talk about. This is so dated and unnecessary.

-Some kind of dc protection. Puts a debuff on you for lower dmg, lower hp etc. for a duration to prevent against abusing, like the deserter debuff, but something like this should have been implemented by now. I see raiders losing their fully geared chars due to a dc or game crash in the middle of fights. Such a lame way to go.

-An optional experience boost for your next character when your lvl 60 hc char dies. If you don’t want to opt in you can do the 1-60 normal way but for people to get back to where they were this would be a great option.

-Mythic style dungeon progression. Currently there’s not much reason to run 60 dungeons once you get your preraid BiS items. This would attract more people to dungeons. I don’t enjoy raiding, big parties etc. and this would be an amazing change for people like me.

-Raid tier items in dungeons. Complete your t0.5 and unlock the chance to get the next tier parts. Complete t1 to get t2 etc and so on.

-Some kind of dungeon randomization. This was something I had wished to see even back in the original days. It’s the same mobs and bosses in dungeons every time. Why not switch things a bit. Imagine going into Scholomance and you see Drakkisath with 2 succubus by his side in the first room. How cool that would be. Add the two previous ideas and now you are in for a treat for sure.

-Some achievements. Hc addon had very cool quest and class achievements but they were a bit hard to do with some classes/specs solo. It doesn’t have to be like that but some general achievements wouldn’t hurt anyone.

The only thing I agree on is the DC protection. Everything else is for SoD. It’s Classic Hardcore, not some wanky hybrid version of WoW

Clustering, yes.

Nope, this allows you just ride thorugh anything no thinking, no danger.

Yes, some kind auto-attack would greatly help and shorten time in game to 10 secs instead 20.

NOPE this is Hardcore, not charity.

Dungeons suggestion: no feedback as levelling is my game.

Nope, this is CLASSIC HC, no Wrath.

Sounds like ideas for seasonal most of all, so try suggest this.

Crossrealm

I’m not sure it’s a good idea, I like that classic feel in HC without layers, phasing and cross-realming voodoo. Maybe it will be better to advertise hardcore mode better?
I don’t see much info about hc recently. “Re: Cataclysm” and Dragonflight patches and ads are everywhere but hardcore can be unknown to newer players (or returning players that missed hc launch).
Make some special offers for playing hardcore, bring more players and leave servers as they are.

Just don’t rush on mobs on mount.

DC protection

Good idea. DC deaths are so unjust and sad. I think characters on DC should auto-attack an enemy with the most aggro + use self-healing abilities (if any) to hold as long as possible. I hope it’s not so hard to implement.

Experience boost

Classic should be classic, no short paths.

Mythic dungeons

I think it’s a good idea for ultra-achievers that were able to clear everything even in hardcore. HC is in fact a challenge mode and infinite mythic difficulty ladder fits well - you can find best of the best.

But… I think it should be done in non-intrusive style like SSF mode (with special buffs). Or even debuffs. Perhaps, it will be cheaper and faster to not edit current dungeons (and rebalance everything), but instead make NPC giving you “special mythic challenge debuffs” where you should clear 60LVL dungeon under a set of constraints and debuffs.

Raid tier items and dungeon random

I think this isn’t so bad of idea, but all such ideas are expensive to develop and test. And I don’t think hc team has a lot of budget.

Achievements

I like achievements, but it will be cool to have them in Battle.net, like it’s done on Steam accounts. Why?

  1. To leave classic WoW UI as it is
  2. It’s good to know that your mate from actual WoW beaten HC mode (for example), it tells a lot about skills.
  3. Because it attracts new players to HC. If player see unbeaten achievements from some “Hardcore mode” in his Battle.net account, it’s a good motivation for him to try this mode.

I would like to see DC protection very much. But in my opinion it is very difficult to implement without people abusing it.

This should be done so long ago. Or at least crossrealm should be implemented like on Era.

Stitches has two layers with 150 players on layer 1 and 44 players on layer 2 which is useless for normal players. Bots obviously can swap between layers and grind materials to “improve” economy.

If merging would be done by now, we could talk about other things but seeing that Blizzard has forgotten that they have existing Hardcore servers, I have no hope in any changes.

Worst case someone doesn’t die by abusing it. I can’t think of any abuse that would affect anyone except the player itself. Maybe a different rule for dungeons and raids vs the outside world to avoid griefing in instances

I would imagine people would use Alt+F4 to simulate DC instead of using petries just to get out of dangerous situations. I’m not sure if its possible to distinguish actual DC or player unplugging internet cord just to get character saved at level that can’t use petri.

Still only few would truly survive pulling plug versus the many now die to real DCs.
Just let player use auto atack if attacked after DC and maybe selfheal
& decrease in-game time upon DC to 10 secs, down from 20.

possibly, still nothing that affects you in the slightest. You play HC against yourself
