Some ideas to improve archaeology

So lately I dusted off my old dwarf and decided to hunt for some archaeology achies. In doing so I believe there are a few things that could make archeology more fun.

  1. Permanent upgrades and items. Permanent account bound upgrades and items would make things much more fun.

Here are some ideas:

Infinite lodestone (10 mins CD). Teleports you to the nearest digsite. One of my main gripes with archeology is how much time you spend alt tabbed flying from point A to point B. This could make the trip a bit more bearably.

Infinite digsite map (10 min CD). “Enhances” a digsite allowing for further exploration. Basically triples the amount of digs available in a digsite allowing you to dig more in your favorite digsite.

Explorers boots: Increases movement speed by 50% when inside a digsite zone

Post dig frenzy: Increase mount speed by a 100% for 2 minutes after completing a digsite.

Explorers disguise: Turns mobs inside a digsite neutral.

Archaelogy crew. Occasionally bump into a a fellow crewmember when exploring a digsite providing you with a cache of goodies from various artifacts/relics.

  1. Archaeology mini-dungeons. (Caves, Vaults and Tombs). Occasionally when exploring a digsite you might uncover a hidden trap door leading into mini instanced dungeon encounters. These dungeons could have a limited time before the cave/tomb/vault collapses. In this time you have to explore as much as you can and collect relics/artifacts/rare transmog/maybe even mounts.

It is a shame that this thread spent so long without any replies. I wholeheartedly agree with pretty much all of your ideas. I have not much to add, as I believe that the ideas you have presented would solve most of the issues that plague this profession.

My only suggestion would be to add some platforming challenges in these mini-dungeons in a form of jumping puzzles. They would be optional, but would give extra loot and achievements.

Thank you for the reply! Jumping puzzles would be really fun. And them being optional would mean people who dislike this content wouldn’t miss too much. Another edition could be other types of optional puzzles such as the ones found in Torghast that open doors with more loot(or enemies) behind them. Overall I think archaelogy lacks that Indiana Jones feeling of exploration and adventure. It is kinda sad that they gave up on it in SL. Hope they reconsider.

I think what would improve Archaeology is if they actually bothered to do it this expansion.

True the fact that they completely forgot about it is really sad. However I don’t think that doing archy with the same old formula would help it either. I believe it requires more updates and changes to help it become a fun and interesting activity that people will actually bother with.

I like the ideas. I’ve recently been farming the “Umbrella of Chi-ji” and thought to myself how miserable the entire thing was.

I personally would’ve just went with the route of improving archeology using a real life method, simply making it valuable.

If you can sell the bone raptor, there’s more incentive to farm it. If you can sell Jin’rokh (or was it Zin’rokh? no idea), people would farm it more.

Make the rare stuff more rare, but make it so people can simply sell it to each other.

If you earn money while doing something, you’ll enjoy it a fair bit more, funnily enough.

That being said, the quality of life improvements you’ve suggested are also quite nice and I’ll go with the same statement others have already said. I like all of them.

Technically you can earn some gold in archy though you will have to sacrifice your relics. Tolvir relics especially cost around 8k each. But yeah being able to sell the toys/mounts/tmog or even better add new stuff we can sell would add quite some value and interest in archy. Still really sad that the entire recruit a friend program is not a reward from archaeology. It fits SO well into the theme of the proffesion :frowning:
