Hey hey, with Shadowlands on the horizon, spoilers regarding the prepatch and the Lich King raising new Death Knights, I’d like to get some things in order. Spoilers follow. Without further ado:
Did the Lich King take over Ebon Blade for good now? He’s been threatening to do so since Legion but the Deathlord was there to stop him then; with the four horsemen standing ceremony under the throne this seems to no longer be the case. Are we okay with that?
We know that the Scourge is going to run a bit rampant after he loses the helmet, but he still has it right now. If the Ebon Blade has come full circle, does that mean its members can roam the Icecrown Citadel?
Where exactly is Bolvar getting corpses of Vulpera, Mechagnomes, Zandalari etc.? Is the Ebon Blade flat out stealing them? I can’t imagine this to be an officially sanctioned process.
What happened to the Deathlord?
Does the new generation of raised Death Knights have the Hunger?
I may have missed some quest text here, but is it now a widely known fact that the Lich King is still about - something that was at least to some degree still a secret during Legion?
I love the words: ’ A bit’… Either way, I’m sitting here ready to put em down flex
I believe this is just a basic part of a Death Knight, so assuming yes.
Perhaps these would be mainly rumours, as he hasnt made a grand appearance yet, wich also leads to believe the forces of the Alliance and Horde will stand for a suprise when they see him bereft of the crown.
But with some events around Legion, with the gathering of the 4 horseman, I think it would be safe to somewhat assume there could be atleast some rumours?
Nothing really says so, they’re just no stranger to working with/under him in the face of massive threats as seen in Legion.
When we did so back in Legion for the frost artifact, it was clear that while contained the local undead were certainly not controlled. ‘tis a dangerous thing to wander Arthas’ hallowed halls.
Implied to be stolen from the front lines, as they all made the ultimate sacrifice for their people.
Nothing, its just hard to show the player character while the player character is someone else. Though it’s safe to assume the usual happened: The title became decorative as the PC pursues their own interests.
Nothing says they don’t, and as far as we know they’re risen by the same spell so maintain the status quo.
A few major NPCs know it, and pretty much any DK in service to Acherus knows it. The average joseph and josephine are unaware.
It also generally seems to be so that they know there is a new one, not WHO it is.
We don’t know. Zero lore on it. I assume yes since they are presumably using the same actual raising spells as before, given that big A himself devised them. But I won’t fault anyone for going with no because there is just no way to know for sure.
The deathlord is busy beating up N’zoth after spending an expansion beating themselves up in the name of the Hordiance.
dks without the hunger are lame so i’ll choose to go with it still existing, just as runeforging and all their other definitive aspects do.
As for whether the Lich King has “taken over” the Ebon Blade, I think that’s hard to say for sure. I think he’ll be taking the place of the Deathlord, not necessarily because he has insidious intentions around the Ebon Blade, but because the story demands it now that the player character has to do something else.
I think the most important part about the new DK lore is their fealty - newly raised Death Knights (fourth gen) have sworn their loyalty to the Lich King. They cannot become knights of Acherus without doing it.
The original knights who earned their freedom at Light’s Hope are not beholden to these vows. I think it’s an interesting dynamic to potentially play out ICly - how will the knights who have left the Ebon Blade after Lichfall (and Legion), the knights who have sworn their loyalty to the Alliance or the Horde or another faction react to this new generation being slaves to the crown they broke free from?
