Somehow, I feel like druids who don't want to get out of their spec-form should reroll another class

I know many of you who are trees/cats/owl will disagree with this (for bears, it’s a bit different for obvious reasons). But basically, if you want to stay in-form (be it cat, tree or owl) 100% of the time, maybe you should reroll rogue, priest or mage.

I’m a druid. I should not be limited to a single form. Let me clarify: not just ONE of my forms should be useful/used.

I’m starting this topic, because over the years, I’ve heard plenty of ferals (I’m feral, so I’m a little bit biased) saying things like “No! I don’t want to do owl things!”, “No! I don’t want to heal”, “No! I want to stay in cat form”.
Well… Reroll a rogue. Seriously.

I’ve seen a topic on shadowlands class feeback regarding useful covenants. Some feral said that he hates owl-weaving and that he feels that it is very wrong that his AoE burst is most efficient by casting heart of the wild and convoke (night fae ability), because it turns him into an owl and cast starfall. He said this is much stronger than anything in the feral toolkit and that “many agree with him” that it’s wrong. He added “WE don’t want to do owl things!”.

Well… For starters, talk for yourself. I kinda love the idea of doing owl things while being feral. I love the idea that this stupid useless balance affinity that we spec into because 3 extra yards range is good but at the same time balance affinity spells used to be utterly bad and useless.
Wow! in SL we have a chance, maybe these abilities will serve a purpose for once !

But no. People are angry, because they don’t get to be cats.
These guys should really see a doctor to treat their toxoplasmosis (don’t get angry, it’s a joke, kinda… If you’re obsessed with cats, a little parasite may be the cause for this).

I have the feeling that Blizzard will never get to try to make druids actual druids because of some players whose voice is too loud and want a simplistic dumbed down limited version of their class… despite having a talent line that is called “affinity”.
I’m sure if there was a feral affinity in the feral spec, these guys would be feral-feral.

Imho druid affinity is worst talent idea that druids ever had. If they delete it and replace with something relative to chosen speck u never face problem u mentioned.
Druid isn’t a chimera and shouldn’t be. If people enjoy playing one speck and don’t like another it’s theyr choice and i think u are wrong when trying to push them out of druid class.

I really wonder why you have to be so rude and loud. So people don’t like the “owl weaving” and you do. Do you think it’s a weird thing people dislike things and people like things?

Just wow…

I don’t think it’s weird people dont like it. They roll feral for a reason and they want to see big feral burst. A lot of people don’t like moonkin form too so that might be a reason. Im also pretty sure that if you would take any other spec, let’s say warlock for example. It’s specced destruction but with convoke they will put up all dots. Im pretty sure they would complain something along the lines of: “we’re destro who want to burst, not dot! I’d roll affliction if I wanted to do that!”.

I really think you should grow some understanding and try to think about what people are saying. It feels to me as if you want to push ur own opinion to that what matters the most to you. Look at it from other perspectives.

So, basically we are agreeing on the core of the issue.

Why am I so loud and rude about it ? I’m going to answer that.
Blood talons is going to change in SL. Not for the better: https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/regarding-blood-talons/188443/4

This change was initiated by people who did not like BT and most probably were not using it as a consequence.
Some other loved the old BT (even if it wasn’t perfect). Why these guys were listened to when they tried to push this BT change ? Isn’t it a bit like me trying to push guys who love being “pure cat”/“pure owl”/“pure whatever” out of the druid class ?

Other than that… The rest of your comments exactly proves my point.

Druid isn’t a chimaera

No, it’s a druid. A feral DRUID. A balance DRUID.

Then we should have completely separate classes, not specs.
That would solve a lot of the issues, since then each separated class would have 3 talent trees to choose from.

But again, that’s forgetting that druids are druids.

Are your druids recents ? When have you started playing wow ? I’m not asking this to make you feel inferior or anything like that. That wouldn’t make sense. I’m asking this because there was a time when druids were marketed as druids, versatile. And you actually had to use the tools from every spec in order to shine.
Then came the great pruning and druids were butchered.

And worst part is that some players seem to be happy with that. Fine for them. But then do not destroy what other may find fun aswell. If I want to owl-weave, then it should be viable for me.

But here’s what I expect : as with BT, ferals-kitty-wannabe will once again kill the idea in the egg. They’ll scream and cry so loudly (much louder than me here, and you know it, unless you close your eyes while reading this forum) that they “unanimously” don’t want owl-weave, that they “unanimously” dont like old BT, etc… and in the process kill the abilities and playstyle other druids loved, even though they were not using it in the first place.

They’ll push their agenda until their way of playing is without the slightest doubt THE BEST way to play because it will be the only viable way.

Well… Tell me I’m rude. I have reasons to.

The biggest problem here is that u think everyone should play according to your play style. And for those who disagree U suggest to change class cause of your own reasons while i against certain attitude.
Where do we agree?

So, we agree, but you don’t understand.

Read me carefully again. Then maybe you’ll get to the conclusion that what I am advocating against is people who force the developpement of druids into their particular playstyle, destroying every other possibility in their path.

In other words:
You want to be a pure cat only. Sure, fine. Go for it. Be a cat. But then do not prevent people who want to be druids from being druids. And for the sake of fun, do not mess up with abilities you don’t want to use in the first place.

lol. srsly stop dictating what players should do.

ok lol… I give up.

So it seems to be that the problem lies mostly in feral players wanting to stay as cats right? I have a problem with owl weaving as feral but not with cat weaving as resto- why? Because it all comes down to flow. Owl weaving as feral does not flow nicely, it feels stilted, slow, a weird outlier to what is already to me quite a clunky spec. In resto- cat weaving is fun, it plays smoothly and its a great filler for when you’ve stuck your hots on everyone and you are just throwing down sunfire and bleeds on your targets for that bit of damage. In all specs I love using bear form as a defensive, really adds to the spirit of playing druid but all of this is nice because it feels natural. Owl weaving doesn’t feel good to play. I also dislike resto affinity before in BFA for boomkin because of how heals would take you out of your moonkin form and you’d waste time going back into it to carry on your rotation, made you so much less inclined to off-heal.

I just hate that it wastes time more than anything, I would say bring back powershifting but i think that would start riots.

From what you’re saying, it seems like you don’t like it (owlweaving or resto in owlkinspec) because shapeshifting costs 1 GCD, except for resto.

I mean, as resto, you drop cat form, there’s a CD on shapeshifting after that, but you’re free to start casting your healing spells, even in cat form. It will get you out of form instantly. So, it feels more fluid than having to waste 1 sec of doing nothing but stare at the GCD.

HotW+balance affinity gets you right away in owl with no additional CD. So it’s more fluid already. But nowhere near what you (and I) would like.

Now that being said. The problem is not exactly feral players willing to stay as cat. It’s more like players who roll a druid and expect to not use all the abilities in their druid toolkit.

For example, as a balance druid, you have access to cat form. But you’re basically never going to use it (outside of maybe traveling stealthed). And if balance druids were told that cat form has its uses in combat, they’d go in a crusade against the idea and crush it until cat abilities are next to useless (or massively overpowered by balance abilities, so using cat would be more than inefficient: it would literally dumb yourself down).

Same can be said about feral. And we have a very good example today with HotW+owl+convoke.
As a feral with balance affinity, owl is part of the feral toolkit. Starsurge, moonfire, sunfire, and so on become part of the feral toolkit. But players simply refuse even the slightest possibility that this could be useful.

They’d rather stay in cat form and have a similarly strong burst AOE in cat form. Making feral-owlkin useless again for another expansion.

They simply refuse the idea that they are druids. To them they are cats or owls, depending on your spec.

But hey, what if cat form was optimal for sustained AoE and owlkin was optimal for burst AoE ?
No, they don’t want that. “owlweaving is bad hurr durr”

It’s true its the GCD for shifting that bothers me, I just really hate stilted gameplay or spending too much time in setups which is why I could never get on with DK. That being said I think it would be a shame to gut druid affinity abilities, I think utilising them should give you a slight edge but I don’t think it should be something that’s forced as part of your rotaiton. I think that it would be nice to use as a sort of rare moment that you might only enounter 3 or so times in a dungeon for where the conditions being met made it worth it.

That being said I’m also someone who doesn’t want super crazy complexity in my rotaiton. I don’t want to be a DH but at the same time I like to have my abilities easily bound without having to have a dillemma about what keys I need to bind for all my abilities and then binding it in a way that makes me lose dps bc I’m too busy figuring out what damn buttons I need to press. So maybe its a complexity issue for me as well, either way maybe it should be that I’m punished a little for wanting to play a simpler rotation.
