Souls in the Shadowlands

Now I was playing Shadowlands and I was wondering what happen to the souls after they die in battle.I choose the Bastion as my covenant and I had a quest where I had to save the Elysian Hold from the Forsworn. While killing the forsworn a thought came in my mind “What happens to them now?”.Well,I’m still trying to find the answear. The first thing that came in my mind is that they will be judge again in the Oribus, but then I was thinking that they will go to another realm. This thoughts are kinds confusing for me at this moment.

As far as we know right now, they get destroyed and sent to the great nothing. Danuser confirmed this on Twitter.

“Necromancer” has a different meaning in Maldraxxus. They can take a fallen body and infuse it with energy to make a mindless servant, or move a soul from one body to another. But if say Draka was killed, they could not raise her from the dead. Her soul would be gone.

I guess this might get retconned one day, tbh I hope it will, because the Shadowlands make up for an incredibly plain, unpoetic, shallow afterlife - felt like life 2.0 with values (honor, loyalty, justice…) not being impacted by death whatsoever. Also because if dying in the SL means being annihilated then the “good guys” we’re interacting with are pretty horrible persons. Also because Ursoc.

Yeah,Shadowlands are pretty much a life 2.0 with values. If they add something new,it could feel like another place, not like life 2.0.Also,the great nothing is something new for me.

Shadowlands used to be described, as basically an endless maze of countless places… so yeah. That’s been retconnedt o oblivion.

And yes, every time something dies in Shadowlands it’s destroyed for good.

Losing your body isn’t necessarily considered dying there, though, since there are multiple quests where you find new bodies for the souls of fallen maldraxxian soldiers… Oh, and fallen kyrian souls can be given new bodies too, as in the case of the Soulfused Construct. But it’s totally not necromancy like we know it.

So yeah… do the smart thing, don’t think more about it than the devs did. So… don’t think about it.

(“the great nothing” was only a way to say that souls just vanish and stop existing tho!!)

I grow tired of saying this but damn I wish SL never existed. Did so much harm lorewise

Yeah, now I am curious about the next expansion.

Blizzard probably copied this concept from the Dragonball franchise…in the Dragonball afterlife, if a soul is killed in heaven or hell, it means it’s gone forever…they introduced this because otherwise nobody would feel threatened when a villain attack the afterlife :stuck_out_tongue:

and even if most people don’t like this concept, it is at least consistent with the other beings though…because a Demon can only truly die in the Twisting Nether (or on planets that are heavily fel infused like it was Nathreza and in some zones of Outland too I think), a Light being like a Naaru can only truly die in the “Lightlands” (realm of the Light), a Void being can only truly die in the realm of the Void Lords, etc etc…otherwise eventually they will always come back.

I dont buy this Great Nothing thing…They should been sent to Twisting Nether

My headcannon is they go to true afterlife, shadowlands does not seem like afterlife, think about it it all about redemption, humility, virtue etc depends on the covenant, seems like purgatory to me.

I really, really don’t see why Blizz felt a need to comment on the final destination of the soul at all, from their word of god perspective. How would anyone on Azeroth or the Shadowlands know what happens to people who die in the Shadowlands? Sure, you can make people in the Shadowlands, like the Broker in the Grimoire, believe that ending there is the end. But you don’t have to confirm it at all. Just leave things that would be a mystery in the world we are looking at a mystery…

It is still an endless maze btw. Devs said that there are infinite realms but we just visit the most prominent/important ones ie Bastion, Ardenweald, Maldraxxus, Revandreath.
