I have just started arenas, I only have 11% versa so I know it’s crap.
I have been following Anboni’s videos but I am really having a bad time staying alive against melees especially Warriors, WW
And rogues.
Fade, disperse, VE, trinket, desperate prayer help me just to delay my death.
For the experienced pvpers… do you have any recommendation?
Thanks
One thing I see a lot of new SPs do wrong is they fade then immediately cast a damaging spell. It cancels the fade effect so don’t do that.
Generally speaking, surviving comes down to: keeping PWS up, rotating defensives to respond to threats (not blowing them all at once), and good positioning.
To give more specific advice, I’d need to know whether you’re talking about 2s or 3s and what your comp is.
It’s also worth noting that Warriors and WWs are VERY overtuned at the moment. Suffering against them is not something unique to priests, every class is feeling that.
Hey, as a shadow priest myself, it definately is hard.
Even with fade and disperse, the meta is way too burst oriented, and you can die anytime if you don’t pre-fade (which has its own risks).
Warrior and WW are definately doing way too much damage in PvP, and the healing reduction does not help make it less oppressive.
So simply put, theres no real way to stay alive unless you do everything right, and has good help from your team, unlike what many other classes can do with kiting and immunities.
Have a healer. Legitimately surviving as shadow against melee is entirely dependant on someone else keeping you alive until the minutes worth of woven interrupts and CC runs out before you’re allowed to rejoin the game.
Running an EXTREMELY sub optimal comp with a Demon Hunter my go to strategy as shadow against melee is genuinely to stay mounted and keep running as they blow engagement tools to keep up. You can use dispersion while mounted so just keep running. I have 19% versatility. Only one ring isnt PvP because I have a 207, while I have noticed a difference, it’s not big enough and genuinely I can be sat in melee losing health while in a talented dispersion. If a double melee reach you, might as well afk because God know you won’t be doing anything for at least 40 seconds and casting can actively kill you because you’ll school lock dispersion and lose your only real survival CD. VT is useless for the most part because it requires you to actually do damage and that’s not possible while in the CC train. Warriors are the worst and genuinely can kill my 2’s partner by accident. If I get caughty job is basically to stand in his double darkness, use fade and dispersion and hope he can kill one of them. My damage in these games often exclusive comes from damnation and instant cast void form/void bolt.
Trinket is bloody useless because it doesn’t remove school locks.
Genuinely you’re job as shadow is to live until the otherwise run out of things to chain lock you down and you have so few tools your job will be mostly done by your partner because any half good melee will tunnel you.
It’s really, really depressing.
It might get better as the expansion progresses and versatility pushes towards 30% but I’m not going to bet on it. The Frank reality is versitility isn’t really good enough for us and the loss of the secondary stats hurts our passive damage badly, even with the 40% damage buff from double trinket. We need the survivability more than the damage and versility just doesn’t deliver.
It is indeed very frustrating, I am no pro player and in the last week I invested a lot of time to learn to play the Shadow Priest in arena through videos, at least a 150 matches and insults by people and man it was hard!
It’s all about dispersing, fading and pray that they use all they’re offensive cds and I use my chains of dps + ccs perfectly or I just never gonna win.
If I manage to drag the manages for a long time I always have a higher chance to win as I can open every 45 seconds.
spriest survivability is all about cooldown rotations with your healer. rotate efficiently, use mass dispel if needed, don’t forget the power of embrace if you can dump all your insanity, along with desperate prayer usable while shadow locked. Use dispersion as soon as your healer gets hard CC’d and you take serious damage, don’t wait until the end so you can benefit from the whole healing component of it.
Warr / ww are our best contenders, in 2s they win by default, in 3s they really give us room for no mistake. Communication with your healer is key. Should you survive the burst you can set up your damage and kills with your teammate. Good luck
