Spears are 
It could work and would have some neat looking animations.
If they added it I think they should go the extra mile and give the warrior combat spells specific to that weapon type.
So short swords grant you a spell that increases parry, maces give you an extra stun, polearms perhaps give you a bladestorm like ability.
Something fun, something weapon master-ish, something the game lacks a lot of these days.

spear* polearm is used as it is in game
In-game it goes as a polearm, but we all know there are many spears in-game under polearms.
