Every expansion launch comes with Queue times (on larger realms) and lag + other problems in the starting areas.
After doing a little digging I have found a way to bypass most of this.
When Expansion Launches, quit wow and turn off PC
Go to bed, go out, or do something else if it isn’t late.
Wake up in morning / some hours later
Play with a better experience than playing right on release.
Why waste time trying to get stuff done the moment the expansion launches? You’ll spend hours of frustration (you’ll likely make forum posts also) and you could have been sleeping those hours instead of making posts or whatever, so when you do actually play after initial rush you got more energy to spend many hours on it.
I can’t wait to read all the ragey posts tomorrow evening once I finish work if there’s a cycle of queues and login fails. The bigger issue with expac launches is usually how there’s at least one kill x of this thing quest and half the planet seems to be trying to kill that thing all at the same time. Good luck to those planning a midnight starting session!
That isn’t guaranteed, especially on higher pop realms.
There will be insane amount of people so you likely won’t be able to progress much (unless you lucky few who get ahead of the pack)
And with the higher pop realms, disconnects and realm/world crashes will be more likely, so you may not be able to do anything anyway. And the long que time if you get DC’d and take a long time to reconnect.
