Is there a way to have a piece of gear, eg head, trousers etc, and actually “lock” its transmog so it does not change when I change specs?

I even took the gear off, put it in the bank, changed spec and checking the bank, the gear has got transmogged again. Not worn, not even in bags, but in the bank.

Maybe if I sell it to the vendor, change specs, then buy it back from the vendor?

Basically it seems there is some code that Blizzard keeps secretly and it transmoggs your gear when changing specs. But it is all hidden, it does not show on the gear, and you have no idea what will happen on your gear until you actually swap specs.

I wish there were a way to “cleanse” a piece of gear from any hidden transmogs rather than having to swap specs and find out see what happened…

Try to take a look when you are at a transmogrifier if you have the transmog for spec only option on. If yes, turn it off. Then I recommend simply undoing the transmog and purchasing it again, now on all specs.
