Specs lorewise

What and how many specs would you think would be viable for each class? Like we only have three mage specs but we could have a 4th: storm mage; or hunters we could have necromancy hunters !

What other ideas do you have?

Yeah, it’s called a Dark Ranger.

I don’t think we should have more specs, since specs are supposed to offer different playstyles, and those are limited, especially if ypu want to keep them balanced.

What is missing lorewise are not “new” specs, but the proper depiction of stuff that is already there. Wardens, Sunwalkers, Moon Priestesses, Tinkers, Light-based damage casters, Dark Rangers, Necromancers, Vodoo Priests, Shadow Hunters, and probably dozens of other things already exist in lore. They are just imperfectly playable through other classes. A bit of visual customization options for spells, like warlocks have with their green fire, would go a long way there. Sure, there might also be room for a mage that throws storm-themed spells, but no reason to try to force a new gameplay niche into the game for that.

Yes, please!!!

With Bolvar as LK I’d love to see a Fire-based DK. Not that I have any suggestions as to how it would play but it’d be fun.

I would love that too! I want my warden and my dark ranger!

Completely agree.

Taliesin did a video a while ago with some random ideas on how current classes/specs could be tweaked to provide lore-classes such as Dark Rangers, Necromancers, etc. It essentially boiled down to choosing a sub-class where your abilities, and sometimes visual characteristics, were renamed/changed to suit the specialised fantasy.

No thanks.

Specs don’t exist in the lore. They are an example of a gameplay systems. In the lore your class is all specs simultaneously. That is why jaina can use ice and arcane spells simultaneous.

In terms of the question tho. All of the “magic” in the universe is derived from the 6 base cosmological forces. As an example the 5 elements come from the life tree of the cosmological forces map. In theory anyone regardless of class can channel any of these forces. Which means that if a class in theory is “corrupted” by ones of these forces they will have at least 1 spec associated with it. Which means that every class can at least have 6 base powers. As well as those powers derivatives. So a life corrupted warrior could have a fire spec a spirit spec a frost spec and so one. And a void corrupted paladin could use shadow magic. Void magic and old god tentical stuff. These are really extreme examples but I am hoping that they will illustrate that as far as potential spec are concerned there are no restrictions. It is just a case of how much a character is “corrupted by” or channeling a particular cosmological force or one of its derivates. You can see more examples by looking at the fel corrupted orcs. The fire corrupted druids and warriors in the Firelands. Even the light forged have examples of mages useing light in place or arcane and elemental magic

For some ppl here wanting fire dk the easiest solution would be A glyph that would make Frost animations appear Fire-y. Otherwise there is no sense in making additional specs, just work on the already existing ones and make them better.

They do but NPC’s get to use the old talent trees.
