Spell power ranged Hunter > Attack power ranged Hunter

It has been theorycrafted that running a spell power Hunter is far superior (+100 DPS) than attack power gear.

Is it intended ?

I do not know how to decipher these hieroglyphics, I am unfortunately not a parsing tryhard, could someone translate this for me?

For comparison, two Hunter ranged (including the one in your link):

It’s a lot of farming and effort to attempt a spell power build on a hunter without it really being more effective than a regular build…

Hunter should just have spellpower with his RAP.

Problem is all major ranged Hunters abilities scale with spell power.

Attack power scaling is very poor or non-existent :frowning: . Who crafted this class made a serious misstake back in the day.

It was rushed for release. Same reason as why hunters had a mana bar instead of focus for example.

there is some bug with serpent damage (it double dips with spell power) and it makes spell power hunter better than normal MM

Oh… A bug that’s helpful… We’ll we’ve seen what happens with that before…

actually some guy went out and reached aggrend and he said its within spirit of the game, so it may not be patched. Bis list for this build are some normal AP pieces mixed with irradiated gear/ sp daggers.

They really want us to cry all of our tears, why.

At least melee Hunter is still ahead but for how much time lol, melee Hunter doesn’t seem to scale very well post-40  .

well, they ruined a hunter after they did focus for them. Yeah, logically is more fit for hunters to have something like focus, not mana, but in fact - hunters was more fun to play in mana period, focus made them boring ranged rogues.

Well it’s your opinion, personally I play hunter since vanilla and welcomed the change in cataclysm. It’s a bit different than energy because you weave abilities to regenerate it.

I don’t think mana fits and we basically do nothing with it. We don’t want int on our gear and with viper mana is basically an infinite ressource.

That being said, if I’m not mistaken, the original intent behind focus was to have a ressource that regenerates while standing still. I’m glad we got mana instead.

Yep, but that’s ranged rogue.
Generate, spend, repeat.

Some years ago people made a point that someone has a fetish for the style and every class became like that. Paladin with holy power, heck, current retail frost mage with the procs and sequencing. It’s not difficult, but shifts focus from looking at the fight to looking at action bars.

The other thing is, do we keep pushing buttons for the sake of pushing buttons.
I identify with styles where auto attack is significant, I just spice it up, weaving in stronger abilities.
As such, Steady Shot is just a filler, serving no other purpose than creating the illusion of being skillfully active.

Yeah. Something that could actually help balance MM hunter would be something that convert some ranged AP into spell damage. This with a proc on autoshot that van give a reduced cast or an instant aimed shot.

And here you have a balanced , fun MM hunter
