Spell steal, arcane

I think that the ability spell steal should be free cost and have charges + CD while you are talented as arcane… Its a pain for arcane mage to burn mana using it while fire and frost dont have to really care about mana.

God knows what you’re on about mate.

Fire and frost’s only high mana spender is Spellsteal. It costs 21k mana against a 100k mana pool, so it can only be used 5 times (you regen enough mana for a 5th cast during those 4 GCDs) before tapping out. Then you’ve got to consider the lack of mana regeneration for both of these specs, severely limiting further uses of SS.

Arcane on the other hand has SS only costing a measly 6930 mana in comparison, against an overall mana pool of 100k + an addition % equal to your mastery. In addition to the reduced cost and higher mana pool, arcane’s mana regeneration also scales with its mastery and you can refill your mana bar with Evocation once every 90 seconds.

Arcane is, effectively, the superior spellstealer. in my current gear I can spam it 19 times (131k mana cost) without even hitting 50% mana, since a large chunk of the mana spent regenerates itself. It can even trigger Clearcasting, allowing for some damage to be recouped.

And although it does cost mana that could be spent on damage, that’s the choice you make. Do you spend that mana and GCD on stealing a buff or do you spend it on damage? What is more beneficial in that situation?

What you are effectively proposing is a nerf to arcane’s capability to Spellsteal by limiting us to charges rather than the split use of mana for both utility and damage purposes.

Edit: spelling errors

Mana-management is core part of Arcane. Current Spellsteal is very good. As an Arcane specialized mage you get it at lower cost, but still can dump mana with it pretty quickly if you’re stealing way too much.

If you enjoy more “free + CD” - in PvP you can try Kleptomania talent - with that CD + mana regen it makes cost irrelevant, and you’ll steal all in one go.
