If memory serves me right (feel free to correct me), Chris Metzen said that Midnight will include the Elves uniting and that it will include Silvermoon, and very likely the Void. When it comes to that statement I personally thought of Spellbreaker as a new class (granted we get more). I do think it would be a cool addition and I think it would make sense with the story. What are your thoughts? <3
I don’t like new classes, they are just something OP that messes everything up but I appreciate others love them.
I imagine Silvermoon will end up like the new Nelf capital and open to both factions going forward.
Shush, I want my Tinkerer!
I’d like to see the lore-friendly explanation why Void Elves were cast out due to studying void, but would be welcome now, when they are actually void infused
You can’t accept that if something is forbidden they face exile?
Nah, i’m fine with that as a concept (although in general I think that the explanation for Void Elves exile was a bit weak - but that’s a subject for whole other discussion).
What i meant was that: Void Elves were exiled for studying the void. The reason given was that meddling with the powers of the void in proximity of the Sunwell may pose a threat to Sunwell and Silvermoon as a whole.
Now, if Silvermoon will become a neutral city, that would mean that Voild Elves would be able to visit it. But here’s a twist: Now they are void infused in a same/similar way as Alleria was. And we all know how the event with Alleria went.
If Sivermoon will become a neutral city and Void Elves would be able to visit it, then I’d like to see the lore-friendly explanation why Void Elves were cast out due to studying void, but would be welcome now, when they are not only studying it, but embraced it and are actually void infused.
This game has a distict lack of a battlemage, so i wouldn’t mind Spellbreaker. Although the concept feels more like a tanking spec for a class rather than a class on it’s own.
Fight fire with fire and all that.
I am not convinced Silvermoon will become neutral though. There are some very strong evidence that Silvermoon was originally meant to be destroyed in BFA, along with the Sunwell. But due to various reason, from Warfronts being a dud to people not responding well to another faction war story, those plans were scrapped.
But Blizzard might revisit those plans for Midnight. After all the term “Midnight” doesn’t just refer to a point on the clock, but also the destruction of the world, usually through mutual nuclear annihilation. Maybe all of azeroth won’t go boom, but the elven world (i.e Quel’thalas) might be destroyed. And that might even be the reason why the elves need to reunite in Midnight.
Spellbreakers aren’t battlemages. They were a unit created in Warcraft 3 specifically to stop mass caster strategies, which were prevalent in reign of chaos. (And have since proven ineffective anyway, hence the unit is seldom used)
In order to put something like that into WoW the class would fundamentally have to be based on the idea of disrupting and annoying casters as much as humanly possible, which frankly we have plenty of already, to put it mildly.
As for battlemages - other than the nature of the fantasy itself, shamans are pretty much exactly that - a melee-capable chainmail wearing caster. And they disrupt casters a lot for good measure. So yeah.
I don’t think it makes even a lick of sense to include them.
I imagine they have to stay well away from the sunwell
My suspicion is that the next class to be introduced in the game will be some sort of Void wielding one… There seems to be a pattern.
WoTLK: We fought the scourge, we got good Death Knights.
MoP: We explored Pandaria and fought the Sha, we got Monks.
Legion: We fought the Legion itself, we got Demon Hunters.
DF: We hangout with the dragons, we got some weird humanoid lizard people
The point being, that at Midnight, we’ll likely fight the proper cosmic void, not old gods simple old gods and all that jazz. But Dimensius the All-Devouring or something along those lines.
Now, as shadow priest are already a thing, I wouldn’t be surprised if said class would be a void infused spell blade kind of class (maybe even plate wearing).
What’s this talk about neutral cities of Horde cities? Over my dead body I let some Alliance filth dwell in Orgrimmar
I remember on the quests to unlock void elves that when Alleria Windrunner entered the room of the sunwell, all hell broke loose with the void going berserk.
Seems like any void elf is just sating his magic hunger with void, but that also means that it is infected, and if it comes close to the sunwell, there is BIG risk of things going south. They were thrown out because the blood elves learnt of that the hard way (and were not willing to risk their source of food to accommodate some rogue scholars).
Not exactly. Umbric’s group (now Void Elves) was exiled before the incident with Alleria. Rommath had them banished, reasoning that any who treat with the void pose a danger to the Sunwell - before Alleria even reached Silvermoon.
Alleria (and by extension, the Alliance) only learned about Umbic’s group from an earlier comment made by Rommath, suggesting that like Alleria, other blood elves had been exiled for dabbling in the void (prior to Allerias visit to the Sunwell).
Did he actually say that the elves were unifying, or are people supposing that? All I remember is him mentioning Quel’thalas due to the Sunwell and the void going omnomnom, and Northrend.
If I remember correctly, the Sunwell will be already under Void’s attack by Midnight, so allowing Void Elves there would be a problem no more. Maybe even more than welcome as their study of the Void may help in the battle agaisnt it in the Sunwell.
Ok, and with that timeline, how does it not make sense for the void studies to be outlawed?
In the real world you have worse things done for less. In game it makes perfect sense to outlaw/exile elves that dabble with the void. It is not like they can lock them up. Only options are either exile or to be taken out.
Fair enough.
Spellbreaker is something that was introduced in W3 for the Blood Elf Warriors isn’t it? As cool as they are, I’m not sure Blizzard would implement another elf-only class…especially something where it’s primarily with the Horde Elves.
Plus, I think Spellbreaker would be slightly better suited for the new hero talents that are incoming, but even then - Blood Elves do have a few of those hero talents, which are closely associated to them. (Sunfury for Mages, Dark Rangers for Hunters.)
Midnight will hopefully provide a new class associated with the Void and/or Elune.
However, that does not exclude the possibility of the antimagic components of Spellbreaker being utilized in that new class.
