I am talking about both Unholy and Frost from the perspective of PVE. They are really lame in both animations and feel they have. It doesn’t feel like performing powerful attacks but rather like emptying a rubbish bin.
Death Coil really breaks the Unholy feel for me, you have all this slashing and savage ghouls but then you just… point your sword at the enemy and shoot a ball that looks like a rotten sandwich that you have left over the summer in your school bag. It looks ok when enemy is in ranged but so bad when it’s point blank. I would just make a different spender and leave Death Coil as pet interaction which we are getting in SL.
Same applies kinda to Frost, animation is ok but you just keep spamming that button and I always feel like I have too much runic power but it just doesn’t do anything powerful and feels spammy.
Bellular actualy talked about these issues in his DK video if you want to have it more professionally explained. He said something among lines “Like Maelstrom it felt more like a burden than actual fun resource to spend”.
I feel like for both specs spenders should maybe deal more damage, do something extra, look different? Be more special? Idk just make them cool.
At least on Frost runic power actually replenishes runes, but on Unholy it just feels bad to hit 3 Death Coils that don’t proc and get stuck hitting with my fat and slow sword.
The truth is Death Knights have either been neglected, or purposefully left to rot in their own broken design. Changes in SL adress none of its issues, instead doubling down on the BoS build (lame AF). And that GCD lock… well i dont need to comment on that.
I think DK feels spammy. Unholy is the least affected, but still, I feel like my main rotation is on 3 keys no matter what spec I’m in. That leads to some gameplay phases where I just spam the same thing 3, 4, 5 times in a row…
Doesn’t feel good. A lower GCD wouldn’t change anything about that spam issue of course, but it would allow DKs to spend runes faster and get some breathing room in the rotation every once in a while: Right now the GCD is just enough for you to always have a resource to spend, you never really run out of runes.
This begs the question, what is the point of having a resource if we’re not ever going to run out of it?
Something along the lines of, adding back a 1 rune cost to Boil Blood, or making Heartstrike cost 2 runes and Marrowrend only 1 instead, might smooth out the rotation for me. Or perhaps get the old runes system back…
How did the GCD affect unholly, Gargoyal and DT was on the GCD and apocalypse if my memory is correct.
We have an issue atm that when we start our burst we need to go Abomination, DT, 2 festers, apocalypse and UF and then start to play which is baaaah.
With gargoyel comming back is ok since you need full runic power to summon him so you can boost your dmg but in all fairness this burst set up sometimes is just tiring where there are people who just press vendeta…
I personally like how death coil looks but I do admit it’s a bit silly when the target is at melee range. I also agree on how you describe it feels like we’re emptying our bin lol. It doesnt feel any special, it’s just something we throw now to empty our runic power.
Also agree with the GCDs. Just requires so many buttons to get our stuff off, but at the same time it feels good when I get my damage rolling
