I thought I would try the gluttony build out on a 17WM Fort (good place to test) I am really sad to say that it is far superior than the Spirit bomb.
This is very sad indeed as the Spirit bomb rotation was the staple of the DH Vengeance.
Here is my understanding
Meta is now a really strong CD and this is what it needs to be, using Gluttony and Visions of perfections gives it the desired uptime on Meta! This I feel is how often you should be in Meta as the Tank version of the DH
The healing done by soul cleave is strong, every soul cleave you can have 2 souls to buff it. Because you are using soul cleave often, you appear less spikey as you are healing often but less (lesser than Spirit bomb)
This is the hardest part of DH Vengeance with Spirit Bomb, you can generate Souls often but you need to use 4-5, there is often not enough haste (GCD etc.)
The fix if there is one to be done isn’t to reduce souls spend on soul bomb, and actually DH with gluttony build is a very strong tank. This means you cannot buff the tank so people can play spirit bomb as gluttony would be to strong…
Roll on 9.0 I guess - have nothing more to play now as the class I like I don’t want to play
Spirit Bomb build is quite good still tbh, but it’s an offensive build; VoP+Gluttony on the other hand is a solid defensive build. And having Meta chain proc certainly helps to e.g kite less.
VoP + Gluttony is too RNG to be meta in m+. Yesterday I tried lower key (KR +15) and I must say that it wasn’t that good. Even my healer complained and whined about me being more squishy than usuall.
Details showed me that my overall uptime on meta was 29%. That is too low. The majority of time I wasn’t in meta, which means I was far weaker without spirit bomb. If I could decide when I want that 29% of meta to be, then I would consider this build to be stonger… But half of the time it could be just between the pulls
While kitting, absorbing soul fragments is also problem. You need to touch the mob with soul cleave and by doing that, he touches you… Soul bomb removes this problem
My healer would hate you for saying this It isn’t much about spikiness, but about your overall selfheal and capability to keep yourself alive without healer touching you. In other words, you want your healer to do other things than babysit you. He can do some damage or heal your DPS. I also tell this to everyone who prefers tank damage over defensives. Healer can do damage as well, you just need to let him. (does not apply in raids)
With spirit bomb you also gain acces to frailty. Which gives you 10% leech against affected mobs.
