(Spoiler for PTR) A quest line triggers the Twitter crowd again

Tl:dr:

In the current story iteration of the Fractured Time PTR 10.1.5 players encountered a quest line that tells an interesting story about Alexstrasza back in the events of Warcraft II. Some users on Twitter didn’t like the implications of the quest line and try to cancel it via Twitter responses (as the only way of knowing how to deal with their issues). In said Quest line we as players revisit a time where during the events of Warcraft II, the Orc Horde under the lead of Orgrimmar did capture and enslave Alexstrasza with the help of the Demon Soul, forcing her to mate with their Consorts to produce more Dragons as War Assets for the Orcish Dragon Riders. Basically a situation of “forced pregnancy” to use the children for War. Absolutely not a nice thing.

But in the quest line, the Demon Soul is in the wrong place in that time line, whic means this historical event is disrupted and Chromie sends us to fix it. Means we as players have to make sure this miserable time for Alexstrasza happens in that time line.

Now the Twitter users complain (as usual) about us players taking part in a “IRL crimes” in a fictional game universe where we as players did also partake in lots of other atrocities over time.

Personally I wonder at what point Twitter people will demand the removal of all “kill NPC/Player” features because “it is a crime to kill someone IRL, so it should be a crime in games too”-:poop:

Edit: In my personal opinion I see no issue with this quest. I know the lore behind the books and I want WoW to be a dark, grim universe. So I personally am all for such quest stories.

But maybe change your games age rating, Blizzard. To avoid legal trouble.

I heard about this and saw a US thread on it too which is now deleted.

It´s a game, nobody reads the quests anyway, unless you´re into lore stuff. twitter can cry all they like, they are not WoW players anyway.

I 100% agree with that part of the statement

This is the same game that renamed the love rocket and turned women into bowls of fruit so I have to say I’m surprised they chose this particular bit of WoW lore to revisit via Chromie and a questline.

I don’t really think this a twitter thing, this is some people are upset by the chosen storyline that has been used in this case.

And thats where the problem lies. Actually paying any attention whatsoever to twitter.

it is sus, I do agree.

It’s incredibly weird and tasteless, especially so with Blizzard being… well Blizzard. I wouldn’t trust them to handle any sensitive topic with a sliver of dignity at this point.

The objections raised aren’t with the lore, the vileness of which matches the Horde at the time, but they draw the line at being made complicit in it, or whether it’s in good taste to dredge up that particular bit of lore, considering Blizzard’s continuous troubles, which are fair points TBH.

What strikes me is how completely out of tune it is with the rest of the expansion, we did numerous quests for Alexstrasza in DF, and have been lauded as heroes for it, and then we do… this, which is doubly awkward if a new L70 does the daily before all the storyline quests involving Alexstrasza…

I´m also wondering if Blizzard is going deep with the uh, “she is a strong, brave woman and a survivor of abuse” narrative.

Trying to win points with whoever they are trying to please.

I mean if thats anyones objection then I would like to remind them that we did quite literally helped a prince eradicate an entire town. Infected and noninfected alike.

That would be about the only fair point. And them choosing that was quite a facepalm. Could have used the time period where the titans choose to buff the aspects.

Of course they bloody are.

yes, but it backfired on them :eyes:

The best moment in wow history was the culling of Strathholme, Needs to be remade with better models

Indeed some just don’t want to take part in it at all.

It does feel wierd like whats the relevance to the story now bar alex appearing. the demon soul is destroyed right? they not gonna bring that back?

three things
-they probably wanted some controversy with going back to that specific time or worse, person who wrote that didn’t know the details of the story lol
-wow has all those flaws issues etc. but people focus on these things is so weird to me
-this game is PEGI 12 and we keep getting disney channel type stories on main lore and everything becomes more and more cartoonish but they decided to revisit that story lol.

This is probably the most detailed breakdown of the quest line, but do not visit if you don’t want to have it spoiled. Or if you feel it may upset you.

There is nothing to be upset about, Alextrazsa’s past has been known for a long time.

Is the forced pregnancy stuff actually mentioned in the game? I’m asking because I’m not sure if ESRB/PEGI will like it being included in a +12 game. It seems like it’s gonna be an “if you know, you know” kind of storytelling.

Nope.

Only in the books afaik.

Honestly I wish it would be the case tho. Because WoW really needs more mature and darker stories imo to work as a franchise of interest.

I mean it is literally called “World of Warcraft” but feels like a fairy-tale show sometimes.
