Spoiler: Review of Exiles Reach (Alliance)

So. Today I downloaded the PTR, and I made a new character to play on Exile’s Reach. When on the ship it was very cool, and when we crashed at the Island it is awesome. The island is beautiful and I was thinking: “OMG! BRAVO, BLIZZ!”, but then the bad stuff came in.
I am talking about stuff an old player has got used to, like me, but a new player would be disturbed seeing. It all starts with that damned Gnome. When we use that machine to look at the ogres, the rope just looks too weird and the character does the Shadow Priest animation when in Voidform, and it looks weird and ridiculous. When that Ogre Necromancer -which by the way reminds me of sth-- ahem- goes away, he literally walks through the skeletons, and I know that some of you are like “dude its ptr, they will fix these things” You’d be surprised, because the game right now is full of such things, and it should not be at the first area a new player gets to see. Then, we get to ride a huge boar, and crush these big Zombies like Pac-Man. It is embarassing. Totally unfitting for a new player’s experience. Some quests after, you disguise as an Ogre and carry your quest givers in chains, though these chains are low res (prolly from Classic) and they move around your hand.
The story is a classic childish fairytale. A big bad necromancer is trying to ressurect a dragon in a dark tower. Overall, I think Northshire is way more fitting for new players, because after we meet that gnome in Exile’s Reach, it all gets weird. It had so much potential. What are your thoughts from your personal experiences?

I thought it was awesome, and although not perfect, does a good job of introducing players to what WoW is about, how the quests work, how your inventory works, your spellbook, what kind of quests you’ll encounter,…

It does hold your hand, and in all video games some suspension of belief is necessary.

And quite frankly, if they get so upset at these things, which overall are really minor annoyances, that they quit already, I’d say: good riddance.

I actually think it was great. Bugs aside, the gameplay was simple and fun but varied in content. There was a mini duel and a mini dungeon.

The map was lovely and quests well thought. I really enjoyed it. Would I do it again? Nah, I guess it’s purely a new player experience. But it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Remember it’s designed for new players, who just want to experience the game. Anyone who’s done their research knows that WoW is ancient compared to its competitors so I imagine they’d let minor graphical issues like the chains slide.

As for the story it seems like a nice refresher where it gives you a crash course in basic races (gnomes, ogres, undead, alliance, Horde) and the games premise. Doesn’t seem to shove lore down your throat, which is always a plus with new players.

Of course, I’m holding off playing through the zone myself till launch but I have read a fair bit about it, and this is just my take.

I’ve done it on horde and alliance and both are great.
I really liked how the gnome had you make the boar huge and ride it but the goblin had you flying through the air shooting the ogres
