Okay.
I’m not sure why you feel compelled to tell me that, but okay.
I will note down on a piece of paper that this is your opinion on the matter.
No.
I drew a comparison between Arthas and Sylvanas in one of my initial posts to explain why one is a good story and why another isn’t.
Arthas ascends Icecrown, puts on the helmet and says “Now we are one.” as he becomes The Lich King.
And then we see him sitting on the frozen throne. The Prince became The King.
Very poetic.
Sylvanas becomes Warchief, burns down Teldrassil, joins The Jailer in the Shadowlands whereupon she gets defeated and sentenced to find lost souls in The Maw for her crimes, after which she says: “It shall be done, however long it takes.”
There’s no take-away from that.
It’s not very deep.
That’s basically the gist of it.
I don’t have a qualified opinion on that. I’m not a storywriter. I’m not one to say what will work and what won’t work. I can only say as a player what has worked and what hasn’t worked. And the story of Shadowlands didn’t work.
Because it’s a storyline that doesn’t accomplish anything onto itself.
When we defeat Arthas in Wrath of the Lich King his father says: “No King rules forever.”
That’s the end of Arthas as a character, but it’s worth it, because Blizzard gains a beautiful story out of it that everyone can experience and remniscene about. That’s what storytelling is all about.
With Sylvanas Blizzard are also losing a character. This is effectively her end. But Blizzard don’t gain a beautiful story out of it. The best people can say is that finally she’s gone and we can move on!
So that’s just a net loss. Which is terrible.
I’ll gladly trade a character in Warcraft for a good story.
But I won’t trade a character for a crap story.
But that’s what I got with Sylvanas.
So I give Blizzard some flak.
Now you’re confusing it again, so this will be my last post, because this is getting silly.
I said that Blizzard have written Sylvanas off. She’s sentenced to The Maw.
And I think it was a waste of a high-profile character.
Because the story is crap.
I don’t care what characters Blizzard kills off in WoW, so long as they write good stories.
In that regard I just note that there seemed to be more structure and planning to their story-writing in the past than there is today, because of the way the character development is handled with regards to Sylvanas.
But that’s their prerogative. I just criticize the end result, because it’s crap.
