So I am still levelling and haven’t tried all abilities yet or know yet which covenant to choose. Wowhead seems to say Necrolords are the go to, I however am really not liking the damage ability given by Necrolords, the shield is awesome though. Kyrian abilities was just trash. I still have Venthyr and Night Fae to try out so I’ll see what I decide after that.
I do however like the transmogs from Necrolords.
Wondering what covenant you all will choose and for what reason
I chose Venthyr…went purely with cosmetics, the mindgames is quite good ability tbh, critting for 10k dmg 158 ilvl, quite quirky to use, but its not bad tbh, pretty good focus target burn ability
As a priest for me there were only two possibilities, Night Fae and Venthyr because of our lack of mobility. I went with Venthyr, because I like both the teleport and Mindgames is nice to use. Also one of the soulbinds has Interrupt reduction so in raids and PVP those will be less bothersome!
Even tho its an absolute trash and basicaly useless ability in pvp…i went night fae…just picked one that i like the most. Will see ho much worse it is in real competition.
I must admit that in dungeons it feels a bit sad to see some classes covenent abilities do like 20% and more of their total damage…rogues, arms warriors, feral etc. I just cant possibly see them balancing this out and i hope they let us change that ability…atleast the main one…fox, shiled, doors of shadow and pet can stay covenant only.
Venthyr priest here. Revendreth is an incredible zone, the aestetic and having a compelling storyline. Neither Bastion or Maldraxxus managed to hook me in that way. Things got much better with Ardenweald. But id never join faeries.
It was a struggle to decide…
I picked Venthyr.
And to be honest…i liked each covenant for its own merits.
I decided Venthyr because i like the aesthetics both in the area and cosmetics…
You get a heavy nuke in a relatively small cd ( compared to other covenants) and the teleport is good for a not so mobile class…even if it has a cast…with big haste it will be done in a second or something …so it’s not that bad.
I went Necrolords because it felt best leveling up and it’s a solid covenant, the soulbinds are great for my playstyle, solo play, bg’s, dungeons it’s baffling to me that it’s not getting more attention and hype.
I can almost guarantee you once the WoW nerds get a feel for the expansion this is the Covenant they’ll be talking about most. I just can’t find any weaknesses to it compared to any other covenant.
With that being said, aesthetically it doesn’t match my tastes. I was really impressed with the faerie kingdom and their story, I initially wanted to go Venthry as I love Vampires, it’s always been one of my favorite horror characters but I just find the covenant so underwhelming for so many reasons, it’s what the WoW nerds are saying is the best right now but I think that will mostly be the case for raids and PvP, I think Necrolords will be #1 later on and surprisingly maybe even the faerie covenant as I think it’ll get buffed in the future making it a lot more appealing.
Either way you’re going to see tears months from now once they improve the balancing and you’ll see covenant hoppers because they can’t resist wanting to be on the “best” Faction even if overall it doesn’t make a huge difference, whatever the WoW nerds say, they’ll follow.
Raiders mostly went necrolord, PvPers all went Venthyr. Mindgames is just… way too strong to give up in PvP situations, and if you ever plan to play disc necrolord is useless for them.
Exactly this. I liked Bastion, would’ve joined them if I was a night elf (on par with Ardenweald). While Mindgames is obviously strong in PvP, I could totally do without it for the sake of looks and character identity.
Mindgames is just insane for pvp. It not only does good front load damage. The extra effects are insane. Pvp is about interupt/cc chains. Mindgames on a healer means the healer cant heal for an extra 5 seconds. Ive seen plenty of (hybrid) healers killing themselves with heals allready.
If you have an arenateam with 3 ppl who have mindgames. You can also use it to stop goes from opponents. That destrolock is nuking your healer? Mindgames him and his dmg heals your healer instead.
The opponents are nuking your healer? dot them up…swap to the healer with mind games + dots in to in to silence and he whont be able to heal his team while you have the team dotted up + your teammate nuking them.
Later on down the line too they get the reduction in silent and interrupts, that’s probably the most appealing to me, following mind games.
But yea, Venthyr has those two strong abilities to me for pvp, but honestly I’m not impressed with the rest of it for everything else, gameplay wise.
Lots of times fleshshield has saved me in so many situations, plus I get the bonuses from draining certain corpses to my stats, just as an added passive bonus. Venthry gets a haste buff it can’t even control when that has to build up stacks to trigger, unpredictable.
With necro in world pvp, I could have a 50 percent hp shield, which is like over 12k but normally is around 7k, plus my normal shield 2k, plus another 15 percent shield if I drop below 50% hp and SP can still burst like hell on the opener and I have an instant ability that I don’t even have to cast that doesn’t interrupt my rotation but adds some damage and healing. But if I’m getting targeted it’s a nice little buffer to be able to negative that opener damage burst.
Mind games is on a 45 sec CD though and it makes more sense in an arena setting, but for everything else I’m enjoying Necro, but i might switch covenants just to give it a try out of curiosity, I didn’t get a good feel for mind games on lvling.
I think I am favoring the Venthyr because Revendreth actually is a living and breathing zone. You have gothic mansions filled with nobles, carriages going around. Dredgers serving their masters. Venthyr going their way on tormenting and terrorizing souls and so much more. And of course the huge gothic castle as well.
Not to forget the smaller walled villages that is far more realistic looking compared to the bare bones outposts of the faeries.
Theres no soul to Bastion in comparision, only populated with the army of blue clones and purple clones. You know its bad when the Stewards have more character to them.
Maldraxxus have a bit more character and difference compared to Bastion, but I think the zone is far too focused on fighting. plus far too many hostile sides of the map. I certainly did not get much of a deep vibe from them either.
Ardenweald was the first zone to impress me, but the faeries just felt kind of there. Outside the center of the map, they dont have much of a presence.
