Yes, it might be that I suck. It might be that I’m doing something wrong.
But the thing is that as soon as I go into los of any casters in arena, I’m at 50% and below, struggling to just get away and survive. Despite healers trying to keep me up.
When I go up against melee I have to pump every defensive CD to just survive their sustain, and when they burst my CDs seem to not matter at all.
Im fairly geared by now. Full honor. 3 conquest pieces, and 2 epic drakebreaker pieces. 415 ilvl or something. I can do big dmg if Im not the focus target, but as soon as they turn on me I have to run or die.
People say “well monk mobility. use it.” But what about warr mobility? DH mobility is even better than monk, and both those classes can go toe to toe with other melee for longer than 3 globals before they are dead.
Are monks too squishy? or am I doing something wrong?
Ye I get full parry while FoF. So there is that. Still doesn’t seem to do much all in all. I get that I’m not a warrior. I’m not supposed to eat all dmg and survive it. But I have to be within melee range to do damage. Can’t run away all the time.
But if I pop all my burst against a DH, for instance, then use fortifying brew (15% reduced dmg, 15% increased hp) and touch of karma, they burn through me before karma is even halfway through it’s 10 sec duration. Doesn’t seem balanced at all.
Yeah I think over the years, devs built WW Monks to be a Glass Cannon class.
However nerfing our 1 min go burst has now put us in a position where if we try to perform sustained dmg like Blizz wants us to, we get torn apart; other aspects of the class are not designed to stick around melee range for that long.
Touch of Karma needs a buff, Dampen Harden/Diffuse Magic need to be re-evaluated (maybe useable while CC?) and Fortifying Brew should be a 4 min CD by default.
The port change was nice but we have warriors and DH who can leap back and forth and just bully you.
We are v squishy, and a constant target in Arenas including SS
I am glad to see I am not the only one who feels this way. I still haven’t given up on trying to figure a viable playstyle, but with the other melee classes so tanky in comparison, and ranged and spell burst so strong, it is hard. We also only have 1 stun that lasts for three seconds, compared to pretty much every other melee class, which has at least 2.
I think especially now monk is super strong. But monk is definitely not an easy class and definitely not Beginner friendly, it has a pretty high skillcap and the difference between a good ww and a bad one is day and night.
You need to know when to kite, you need to anticipate cooldowns, you need to take care of your positioning…
Basically its hit and run playstyle, you’re not supposed to tank anything but rather push in - do your set up - kite away
This is true. Im not the best ww, but ive mained it since panda, so im not clueless either. You are also right that ww is very strong in terms of dmg output. But survivability seems to be at an all time low.
Those CDs seem to matter next to nothing against the insane burst of some classes. When using karma and fortifying brew, which is 2 big defensives, I expect to get more value than surviving for 1 global longer. Karma is a joke at the moment, unfortunately.
But, since starting this thread Ive tried a few different things. Tweaking build and adjusting my mindset. And it feels a little better. I guess I just have to relearn the class. And if I wanna do mindless button mashing I guess I’ll have to reroll a warr
WW is super balanced imo. It has a very good setup to burst down opponent and above average mobility to get away / kite / stall till next go. It has its strong and weak points.
Karma is useless as hell. Im not even talking about some defensives like bop, iceblock which just stop your carma. Its just week. Back in mop there was rule: dont hit karma. Now its just juke. There is no sence to not touch karma. Maximum dmg it can do in 10 sec is 80-90k. Warrior outheal that dmg passively and I just ignore karma and kill monk through it since it only absorb 50%hp and monk have no ways to heal (vivify is weak even if you take all talents for it. So harm-healing and full energy through soothing mist spend on vivify gives me nearly 30%hp in ~8sec. Monk is not the easiest class at all now. Sure it can setup very good dmg in cc but that is predictable every minute and it gets nearly 4gcd before he start doing dmg (that dmg is high though, especially if he stunned few enemies then there wont be only big aoe dmg in this burst but also more stacks of thunderfist which is main monk burst dmg now). But well played monk is good.
Shamy is on another level of squishiness. It doesnt deny that monk is squishee. Ive got even moments when I popped up ALL me defensives at once with karma and still was killed through them while getting healed. But shammy - I feel you. Getting 1.5 defensives without monk mobility and sustain means you loose dmg.
dmg too high, defensives too crap
ww in a nutshell.
karma absorbs less than a dark pact on double the cd and can be boped
those devs never played pvp on any class.
if you dabble in pvp like me on all classes and specs to test than you actually see how freaking garbage the balance is especially if you move from s tier to a f tier spec.
try playing mm hunter in a bg and then switch to enhance without poking your eyes out
or go in arena with dh and then switch to your boomie
the difference is insane
