SSAA impossible with latest changes

I am usually always playing with SSAA enabled, which isn’t obviously available, but today, I am unable to make it work. WoW keeps either locking up or directly crashes.

My approach is this:

In AMDs control panel, I set it to enhance antialiasing to SSAA level.
Switch to DX11 mode.
Enable MSAAx4.

Result is that WoW locks up.

If I instead use DX11 Legacy mode, WoW directly crashes.

WoW used to be stable playing like that, but I guess Blizzard doesn’t want us to have nice graphics. Another nail in WoWs coffin.

The most visible reason I want SSAA is due to the ever UGLY name tags above players head. Blizzard uses a large texture and uses bilinear filtering to enlarge it, but reducing it seems to be done using nearest neighbor filtering and this is the ugliest way to do that. This has been an issue way back from Vanilla WoW and to this date, it has remained an eye-sore.

Anyway, SSAA gone, so is much of my motivation playing this (now ugly) game.

Edit: (Can’t reply) Disabling Multi Sample Alpha Test solves the lockup/crash problem and SSAA works again.

Yeah, MSAA is broken on AMD.

You should try disabling the changes you made in the Radeon control panel, not using MSAA in game and setting the resolution scaler in WoW to 200%. (with bilinear enabled in Advanced panel)

I did get it to work. WoW’s Multi Sample Alpha Test doesn’t seem to work, and when disabled, SSAA works just fine. Your suggestion is ok for those who cannot get native SSAA, but RGSSAA is quite a bit better than simply rendering at double resolution and scale by 50% afterwards. RG = Rotated Grid.

Hey Galmok,

This is being looked into, sorry for the trouble caused. Thank you for sharing this with us here.
