So, I’ve been playing WoW for about 10 years and I’m still loving it so far. In all that time, there has been that question nagging in the back of my head: “What would it be like to RP?”
I’ve been thinking of trying it out often, I imagine it’d be a whole different experience of WoW, but I never really got around to do it until now.
Now, I actually want to give it a proper try but I am in need of help and hoping I can find that here.
First, let me just admit, I am not a very creative person, I do like writing stories but they’re more for me and the idea of having to act out a story or conversation with another actual human being scares me a little but I still want to give it a go. I do consider myself to have a decent knowledge of the warcraft lore, but I’d like to know if I should keep anything inmind when creating a character. For example, I can imagine RPing as a Nightborne could prove to be difficult, what with them being over ten thousand years old.
So first question is basically, what race is the best to play as for a beginner RPer?
Then comes the question, what server is the best to play on? I would like a populated server where you can encounter people anywhere as to engage in a RP or something of the sort.
Lastly, if anyone else has anything else to add that I should keep in mind when RPing, please do tell. Or any tips whatsoever.
I really want to do this right, to make it an enjoyable experience, not just for me but for the others as well.
Additionally, I am aware of most of the RP rules, such as godmoding (I forgot the actual name for it, when a player forces their actions upon the other without their consent), not to be a Mary Sue, nor to have lore-clashing background (such as being a friend to Thrall or something).

I’m also following this thread in regards for the RP servers although a quick search of the realms and posts from 2016-2018 pretty much seemed consistent on Argent Dawn (if anyone would like to confirm)
Regarding your questions:
~ Which race? I find that usually the best race is the one that charms you the most and you feel most connected to it.
If you’re afraid of lore-breaking and what to get the most freedom then the most non-restrictive options are probably the Humans. As we’re humans ourselves you can pretty much understand why you can have as ordinary, weird, crazy or anything else that comes to mind and still have it under acceptable by lore/race.
But again, go with your heart. Just make sure to do some research on race behavior, lore etc to make sure its in the right bounds.
I’m sure some more people will hop along for any questions in this thread.
My advice? After finding the server - search for a guild/hub/community that you feel like you’d want to join and bombard them with questions
I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to help you with all the links, tips and advises for the niche you’re wanting to try.
Most importantly, don’t be too harsh on yourself at the start.
Just enjoy the immersion, you’ll find your place and your fun!
Thank you very much for your input! I also noticed Argent Dawn was the most popular one but I just wondered if people would say differently now.
Regarding the race, that’s actually helpful advice, I also thought about making a human since like you saif they may have the least restrictions background-wise but I’d also feel like that’s unoriginal, nothing against that but I am already a human in real life, why be a human in-game too if you get me? I’ll think on it some more of course, perhaps I will end up making my character a human after all!
Yup, non-human is probably why fantasy was invented But Humans can have their charm in the lack of limitations you have sometimes.
