At the moment all healer specs (except Disc) are widely represented in the top M+ keys. Don’t get me wrong, Disc is, or can be, insane in the raid. But in M+ there are 2 fundamental problems.
Disc is a Shadow Mend spamer in many situations. Not only does this make the spec a bit monotonous in M+, but it also costs so incredibly much mana that even with Urh you have trouble managing it in places.
What bothers me the most: The damage output is way too low. How can Holy Priest currently do more damage than a Disc Priest? How can a througput healer contribute more to group damage than a healer who HEALS BY DOING DAMAGE?
I am aware that it is not an easy task to balance Disc Priest correctly, there have been problems in the past. But I also think that a spec that is widely considered the most difficult healer spec in the game should be rewarded accordingly if you manage to master it. In the current state Disc is in, and after the damage buffs for Holy Priests, it has sadly become unavoidable to play Holy in high keys (20-25). Something urgently needs to be done here, because this is how you drive players away from what is actually a great and also sought-after spec.
I’ve played a fair bit of disc at the start of this season in m+ and it’s disgusting how, as a holy priest, I handle nearly any situation with ease, without even thinking, while as a disc priest, I need to preemptively decide what to use for which situation to handle it, and still end up dealing less damage than a holy priest pressing divine star on cooldown.
Holy is easier and stronger in every aspect.
Which must’ve been how holy priests have felt for the past few patches, except disc was never easier.
The combination of holypriest actually receiving a setbonus contrary to disc, as well as holy receiving an insanely huge buff on literally anything they do was just too much.
Disc has always struggled to be an even decent healer in m+, but now, disc is just straight up bad, with no reason to ever play disc in m+, unless you desperately need PW:Barrier to survive some mechanic.
As somebody who doesn’t like playing holy priest and considers the spec boring, I’d love some changes and second this request.
It is a tragedy. I’ve played Disc since Cata and I have always enjoyed it, no matter what content I did. But now in SL, I find myself disillusioned with the spec. I am very close to abandoning it and picking up Holy. It is very sad to say that both of you are correct. Disc Priest may shine in a Raid but in M+, it just doesn’t work. I haven’t even played a single M+ this season simply because I know what awaits. It doesn’t help that either, apparently to be even remotely viable in M+, I have to be Kyrian.
I tried playing disc in M+, but at higher keys (and I’m sure I’m not the best one out there) I see there’s ways too much damage for me to handle.
What they either need to do is, or higher dmg (for atonement), or increase shadowmend.
It’s sad, I kind of like the spec. Sure I main holy, but I wanted to play disc on the side (not just in raids), and it’s (esp. in pugs) almost impossible.
It was always like that. M+ atonement healing was meh since MoP. We had some moments at BfA start, but were quickly nerfed. Paladins and rdruids dominated the expansion until the end of it.
I used to heal as a disc a lot, and dps as shadow. Atm i dont like playing pve at all. Disc is too much pain for no reward and shadow rotation and mechanics are plain stupid. Maybe legion and BfA shadow had it problems, but current one is an abomination.
