I was very happy when I saw new Steady Shot rune, hunter really need some filler in Classic Vanilla.
Tooltip says cast speed 1.5 (like in TBC) but as I found cast speed is a bit longer.
To be sure I downloaded few addons which calculate casts and in case of Steady shot it says 1.8 sec.
I hope Blizzard will fix this, I know is not a big difference but would be nice if they go to spend some of their time and fix this.

From what I gather it’s because the autoshot cast time is added to the total cast time for steady shot. I also hope they would do something for steady shot since it seems a way to help ranged hunters in pve without affecting PvP too much, but I get the sense that a lot of other hunters dislike the ability.
I find funny how they are trashing one of my beloved spell of the past.
If we see steady shot in TBC:
Requires Ranged Weapon
A steady shot that causes base weapon damage plus (Ranged attack power * 0.2 + 150). Causes an additional 175 against Dazed targets.
If we assume that for balancing we remove the flat 150 damage and the bonus damage for dazed target, assuming a medium weapon like warsong bow with a maximal weapon damage of 71 and with a RAP of 700, steady shot should deal around 210 unmitigated damage, which it isn’t near to what we have now. even Wrath version deals much more damage than that of SOD.
Now even if ranged hunter received a whooping 3% in damage increase, i am beginning to lose hope for steady shot improvement, also because blizzard and people forgot that Chimera shot is =/= explosive shot.
Chimera shot in Wrath had 10 sec CD and of course it was more powerful and had a scaling serpent sting to the damage, not a flat 48%, which could be fine btw.
Therefore we had more time to fill in the rotation more powerful steady shots.
I beleive that the only solutions to steady shot to be usuable right now are 3:
- Increase the damage significantly (by a large margin)
- if the damage has to stay at 60% weapon damage, make it like Retail version, but not castable in movement, and that the spell won’t clip with autoshots, they are each other indipendent.
- change steady shot in something like wild quiver, or some sort of automatic ST damage buff instead of expose weakness, more suited for aoe damage.
