I encountered a problem with my Steam Deck a few hours ago. When launching the Battle.Net Launcher, an authentication window appears. Regardless of entering credentials or proceeding without them, it leads to a grey screen.
Resetting the Steam Deck to factory settings didn’t resolve the issue. Even with the new Battle.Net client, the grey screen persists.
Could you please provide an update on when this incident will be resolved?
That means that while it may or may not work, if (when) you run into problems, Blizzard cannot assist you with it, as its outside of their support scope.
It’s evident that the Steam Deck is a gray area for support, but the issue isn’t with World of Warcraft; it functions properly. The problem seems to be with the Battle.net launcher, which no longer correctly detects the network.
Exactly the same problem on Ubuntu with battle.net installed with Lutris. I had the “Connect me automatically” box ticked and then the Battle.net window opened but remained empty (grey).
To fix the problem I went as far as :
Uninstall Lutris
Reinstall Battle.net
Then the installation didn’t even finish. A problem occurs at the very end, when the connection window opens.
In short, there’s clearly been a problem with battle.net on Unix systems since this morning.
It seems like the problem comes from last steam deck update. I have a 2 steam deck and one of them with old OS can run battlnet. But after an update it has the same problem.
As i was not enabled to install battle.net from lutris, i tried to install it directly on steam (same method as it’s recommended for the steam deck). Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, etc…
I have the same issue, as i had on lutris. Log form appear, with login and password fields, but button to login not appear (there is juste the iddle battle.net logo)
Same problem here… Yesterday I was still able to use everything… it was around 11 p.m., then I needed a short break and logged off. Then I wanted to play again, but the Battlenet launcher just appeared gray… Reset the entire Steam deck and reinstalled it. Battlenet can be installed, but once you get to the login, all you can do is enter your email address and password. But the login button is not there. Below the field where you can enter your login details, only the Battlenet icon will load. Not even the login options for Google, Apple, etc. appear…
Same problem here that you described with the grey screen. From one moment to the next, stopped working. Tried factory reset and installing on the SD card.
Lutris → preferences → global Options → environmental variables
AS KEY add -> WINE_SIMULATE_WRITECOPY
AS Value add -> 1
I think i have the solution for Steam Deck too, but i can’t test it by myself, so i just post my solution, and i hope it’s the solution for you :
------- Fix on Steam --------
In the options of your battlenet (the place where you choose the proton compatibility), go in the “Shortcut” tab and in the field “Launch Options” put this command → WINE_SIMULATE_WRITECOPY=1 %command%
Let us know if it’s help
If not, i know it’s possible to install Bnet with Lutris on the steam deck (just view some tutorial on the internet).
So I was having issues with bnet loading full stop (after the grey box issue). I’ve just done the launch thing and now bnet loads but back to the grey screen!
It worked thanks! Note: if you are on steam deck, make sure you have updated Proton - otherwise you will still get the grey box ( currently working on Proton 8.0-4)
