Steve Danuser has completely destroyed the lore of WoW

He may be gone from blizzard but the damage has already been done to the overall lore of the game. I don’t think Chris Metzen will be able to repair the damage that Steve has done with BFA, Shadowlands and Dragonflight. Out of these horrible 3 expansions, I think Dragonflight’s storyline is the worst and most cringe worthy.

It is a bit like as if Disney would hire George Lucas with some fancy tittle to have a Name again tied to their Star Wars
Nothing would change, really, just it would put a collective rose tinted nostalgia glasses on the people
The similar happens/happened here
Poeple treat it like Jesus’s second coming, conveniently forgot Cataclysm and Warlord of Draenor and many other things were Metzen’s doing
And the fact he have to answer to the will of the shareholders and the mighty dollah
Nor the stage, nor the play has changed, just the actors

Cataclysm and Warlords of Draenor were disliked for the quality and lack of content respectively, not for the story. BFA, Shadowlands and Dragonflight has plenty of content but the story has become utter nonsensical and meaningless.

Respectfully, I beg to differ
Cataclysm’s story was horrible, driping with self insert worse than Nathanos as Sylvana’s boytoy and Draenor’s 'story" was even more down the gutter
Sure it could be my opinion, but seen numerous times on the forum and in game, people hate those two’s story with burning passion

that’s how I feel about star wars acolyte.

DF story was a mess with too many campaigns with too many gates (renown or dungeons / raid).

But saying that I don’t think it’s damaged WoW as much as BFA and Shadowlands (especially BFA). It ruined Sylvanas and Anduin as characters. Weakened the Factions lorewise. Removed Iconic locations such as Darnassus and Undercity.

DF hasn’t fixed much lorewise but it’s not damaged the game either.

Df is easily the best expac of the 3.

Probably not the worst since it didn’t even try, but it certainly is extremely cringe, yes. You’d wonder how a wartorn world for millennias would lead to races like dragons being as brave and charismatic as a redditor.

Also yeah Metzen might be able to stir the story towards a good spot, but I’m fairly sure the writing will be as garbage as in DF.

Do people think Steve just walked into the office and was able to change the lore willy nilly?

He still needed approval from people.

Why do guys think that Metzen is going to save this mess, especially when he’s just as responsible for this massive $hitshow as all the other writers?
Are we all going to just collectively forget all of the nonsensical/unnecessary/idiotic retcons, story and lore decisions (going all the way back to warcraft 3) that happened while he was still in charge?

I don’t know who did what, but there’s been a lot of story moments and quests in the last years I’ve absolutely loved, and there are a lot of story moments for way back that I didn’t enjoy at all.
I have some criticism, but I honestly don’t think it’s that bad and I wouldn’t aim it at one dev over the others unless I knew for certain he made those decisions and nobody else was involved, which is unlikely.

The whole “Metzen will save the lore”-thing leans on one mistaken assumption: That WoW lore writing is done by just one person without any outside influence.

Metzen may be able to improve the characterization of some characters a bit, but the biggest lore “issues” (Horde and Alliance working together being most often mentioned, the move to more political correctness) are caused by outside forces (Faction imbalance and changes in societal attitude, respectively), and are as such set in stone.

The amount of stock you all (some) put in Metzen is starting to teeter on hero worship.

Metzen has had his fair share of absolute fails when it comes to the game and lore. Let’s also not forget that he was more than aware of the complaints against certain staff members and their “ways” and did nothing about it then pleaded ignorance when it all came out. I don’t trust him.

The sheer volume of hate that has been chucked at Danuser because players didn’t like where the story went under him is beyond cruel at this point - and it’s not like Steve had final say in a lot of where it went. He inherited a lot of crap with in-development BFA and tried his best to make it work.

He hasn’t been at Blizzard in a long time - leave the man alone for god sake. The way the rapidly aging, man-baby WoW players still treat him to this day is so bloody immature. You can dislike his work and you can criticise the direction of the story but it’s went well beyond that into bullying. Just stop it.

Yeah, Narratively (save for the cut ending and mind dev rewrite) only thing wod needed was a tiny plot line which said that whatever Kairoz did to make WoD happen decimated the bronze flight in such a way that it wouldn’t happen again in our life-time.
