Steward-like class

Well met beautiful people.

Long ago, during boring hours of work, i was thinking about how classes been growing and developing on the last few years. Of course, when i tought about it, was back in Shadowlands, when the game’s story was… eh, convoluted.

My idea was simple. With all major heroes fighting on the Shadowlands, what new and old foes would appear on Azeroth? What if Twillight cultists reapeared, or pocket of demons breached real world to avenge the Burning Legion. Or even nuisances like a gnoll/murloc/kobold coalition (like was planned as Garrosh’ new horde a looooooooong time ago).

The idea was that a new group of defenders would take arms and defend Azeroth as the champions were focused on major threats, and eventually join them when more experienced. As such, a new class would be born.
I am unsure about the name, to be honest, but, in general, would be commoners that took arms and grew to face most threats on their own. I considered names such as Guardians, Stewards, Defenders, and so on. It would be a chainmail class, that took the tank, melee dps, and ranged dps roles.

Baseline, they would be kind of similar to warriors, but less brutal. They would specialize in physical strikes and stat debuffs, using the power of wit and word (aka EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!!). Their survivability would also depend not just of their own stamina and armor, but also from quickness.

MECHANICS:

They would use focus, like a hunter, as base ability cost. Then, there is a mechanic called “oportunity”, depending of the specc chosen, that allowed more powerful abilities to be used. Maybe max it to 3 to 5 “tokens”.
As commoners, they aren’t what would you call professional. They do dirty tricks to get an advantage. They care more about their survival, and can slip back to escape an area damaging spell or cleave. They can also pass the aggro temporarily to another player as dps, reducing the current aggro to 50% and passing those to the targeted player (like, pointing to someone else and blame them!). On the other hand, as tank they can chose a player (lets say the healer) as a honor bound, and all the aggro and 25% damage they take be funeled to the tank instead.

THE TANK (lets call it… Shield Brother/ Shield Maiden. See my inspiration?)
The tank specc would be more ‘dodgy’ compared with other tanks, having a slightly higher chance to dodge, parry, and block compared with other tanks. Whenever the class dodged an attack, an oportunity token would activate. Their oportunities would focus, for instance, on a counter-strike that caused 125% base damage, and maxed taunt on the target, or cause a direct or cone debuff that could weaken the foes. Their abilities would focus on quick strikes, shield bashing, and mocking the enemy. They would, of course, use shields, and be keen to daggers, swords, and axes. Maybe maces too.

An idea for a mechanic, would be using ‘insult’ (the taunt), then if a oportunity would pop, use ‘mock’ (cone taunt that not only increase aggro, but also reduce the target chance to hit). With two or three oportunity tokens the tank can ridicule (aoe taunt, that increase aggro and reduce the enemy attack speed by a small amount). The main target (the one suffering the taunt from ‘insult’) will have the effects from mock and ridicule increased by 25%.

THE MELEE DPS (lets call it… Berserker, Barbarian, or just Fighter)
For starters, i admit i am undecided if would be a dual wielder, or a 2h weapon user. I pend more for dual wielder, though. They would use swords, axes, and maces.

They would be brutal melee fighters, hitting hard and madly. They could sacrifice defense to increase attack speed with a Enraged Howl, silence with a Sucker Punch (would also cause bleed), and their insult would be replaced by a challenging shout, making all attacks on that target hit harder.
Other idea i have, is they could grapple a foe at a short distance and headbutt it, causing the foe to be pulled to a couple feet from the player and get stunned for a second or two. At melee range they could also power kick, pushing non elite/boss enemies a few feet away making them drop or get dazed for a while (probably would be a bit OP on pvp tho).
Their oportunity token would happen every time they could cause a crit. They could also do a leg sweep for a short stun and a free oportunity. Oportunities would be spent on massive strikes that would cause movement speed debuffs, bleeds, or armor reduction. Alternatively cause a ground smash that damaged everyone around.

THE RANGED DPS (Lets call it… Ranger :stuck_out_tongue: )
This would be the alternative to hunter, a slow, but hard hitting ranged dps, that focused more on critical damage.
In the end is an idea of a class that could help marksman hunters be what they should be, instead of a messed up mix of ideas between old MM and old SV in a single class they turned post Warlords of Draenor. They could use bows, xbows and guns, BUT ALSO axes and daggers (would be throwable, however).

They could snapshot when moving, doing a quick attack that marked the target with an extra damage to every player who hits it. They could cause bleeds with the serrated shot (that could be improved to a drilling shot), slow with a knee shot, silence with a throat shot, and take a aimed shot for triple damage. Their oportunity token would activate with each 10 consecutive hits on the target, allowing to make an headshot that always crit, or a piercing shot that damages everything on a straight line for about 50 feet from the player. They could not use mock, but could make a shout that boosted attack speed to every player on a small area.

Well, feel free to give your opinion. I know some will feel it would be weird, but i like the idea of a class without any magic, that fits the lore, and that use the power of emotional and physical damage to win fights. Sort of a milita rabble that grew into powerful fighters!

Just reroll a Troll Hunter and berate your teammates with emotional damage!

Can’t be a chainmail tank tho! xD

A shame, really.

EDIT: I also gotta admit, i took inspiration from Sentinel Hill on WoW, and would love a chainmail tank that looked like the berserker or serjent from Age of Empires 2

The amount of new classes I wish we could have in this game… This sounds so cool. I’m still thinking about all the tinkerer class ideas people had. I hope one day we just get a few new non hero classes.

I would like to see a new physical DMG class where I can fight weapons less.

Yes we have monks that do that but they are sort of a magic class and they are either nimble back flip guys or drunks.
I want a a class that goes there and punch the evil out of his foes. No back flips not magic just muscles.

The idea i gave would still work with fist weapons, like some kind of brawler!
