Stick to Paladin or go full DK

I find retri extremely boring and frost dk least feels more alive, when in dungeon. For me, and not related to this thread, I’ve said it to my friedns many times - that paladin is the most boring class of BfA for me.

But I think this gets us to the main key here - paladin and DK classes are meant for two entirely different player types. Those who love ret find dk boring and dks find paladin the dullest thing on universe. But least dks have anti knockback !

I have several Dks, but for me paladin while her neck is 60 and all, I just keep her prot because ret is way too… ‘meh’ for me.

You went full retribution, man. Never go full retribution.

Go paladin.

It still boggles my brain that they did it with only one dedicated healer and people using off heals when it was required.

to OP. I would go ret. Great burst damage with wings up, offheals/shields etc to help your team

I’m betting all my chips on DK next expansion. We know there’s gonna be some form of DK revamped starting zone and lich king involved, so can’t see DK being in a bad place. They were gods in Legion at tanking and DPS. Yeah they dropped off a bit this expansion, but it’s swings and round abouts. BfA I put my money on rogues being OP before it came out (pirate theme/kul tiran) and outlaw rogue was beyond OP for over a year, and assassin has been very stong all of BFA. I think DK will be in an amazing spot next expansion.

Try both classes, play the one you enjoy more. That’s your best bet

I don’t raid. I don’t Mythic. I’m leveling a Ret Pali now - fun. I main a Blood DK, I haven’t done rated but all I do pretty much is PVP – and it’s awesome for BGs. There’s enough ‘spell offensive’ to not make it feel to slow, and I think it surprises people by how much punishment a Blood DK can take and how much they can dish out. There are no classes that I feel threatened by as a whole in BG PVP. And it holds flags very well - if you put up all your shields, hp boosts and defensives, it can hold for quite some time against multiple opponents while help comes.

Eh, it is mostly subjective, but yes, their toolkit is severely lacking, at least in the offensive spell department. All you do is spam obliterate + howling blast procs, that’s it. Oh and autoattacks are your main damage dealer, so essentially on a patchwerk type bosses you can just afk and watch Netflix or something :stuck_out_tongue: Quite literally
Blizzard’s class design at its finest, wouldn’t you agree? xD

In mythic plus, Frost is actually crazy in cleave/aoe, even more if you get the PvP talent essence, Chill streak, which at 420 or so can crit for easy constant 50k+ per target, with a proper setup such as Pillar of Frost.

In ST fights it’s the most brainless and boring spec in game :stuck_out_tongue:

But I love challenging myself to 30+ sec breaths. Which of course I can forget soon as boss decides that i should be subjective to boss-fight-mechanics.

Eh…i don’t know, on my crap geared 120 DK, maintaining breath is easy as hell, spamming obliterate and making sure you don’t dump RP on things like FS is hardly ‘‘challenging’’ :stuck_out_tongue: But each to their own.
I kinda hate Breath tbh, i prefer Icecap, the only reason i ever pick Breath is because it adds another button to already empty action bars :stuck_out_tongue:

I doubt your ‘crap geared dk’ holds breath into next pillar of frost.

Almost actually, 3-5 seconds prior to next pillar. As i said, i don’t find breath challenging at all, just as brainless as the whole spec. Besides, it also depends on RNG due to talents.

But it also removes another button, aka frost strike.

@OP,

I’m in a similar boat - been maining Warrior since Cata/MoP but eventually transitioned to Ret/Prot Paladin.

The obvious bonus of a Paladin is that they are one of few classes that can fulfil all three roles (Tank, Healer, DPS), so even if a particular spec falls out of favour, you can consider any other role if you wish to remain on that character regardless. All three specs are exceptionally sustainable and thus have absolutely no issue with any solo content (or even solo’ing group content). It is the character I go to when I want to farm transmogs and my main character (Ret) for Mythic+ and Raids.

The joy of RetPaladin (especially Mythic+) is that they are an absolute menace vs AoE situations, especially with certain traits (but still huge without them). This means they’re fantastic at getting you to bosses in a hurry through all the trash. While their ST DPS isn’t nearly as good as their AoE potential, it is still very consistent and not too shabby, plus they have a wealth of utility - a lot of which can be very, very useful against almost every M+ affix.

DK’s, on other hand, are in a decent spot but are limited to two roles and said specs are either a bit convoluted or, in another case, a bit dull.

You seem to enjoy the lore, in which case DK certainly has an advantage, but if gameplay beats lore in your mind, then I thoroughly recommend going Paladin.

As for PvP, Ret is the type of spec that ‘blows up or get blown up’, so some may find that good/bad. However, I prefer to PvP as Protection. You have decent duelling potential due to being very sustainable, but your strength is not in kills - rather, your utility and extremely annoying playstyle. Knocking people about with your charger, high healing-done despite being a tank, interrupts, slows and other shenanigans can make BG’s quite fun. There was also a time that Prot Paladin was quite common in arena as more of a full-healer (just super tanky). However, Holy Paladin in and of itself is perfectly viable as well.

If you truly want to try something other than your Warrior, then I wager Paladin would be the closest thing for you.

I praise you for such a delightful as well as insightful suggestion. Thank you very much sir

No matter which one of those you pick, most likely you will end up tanking, cause pugs don’t want these :speak_no_evil:

You’re very welcome. As said, I wrote it as someone who was extremely happy with Warrior (both Tanking & DPS) in both PvE and PvP, yet as Legion and BFA rolled around, I found myself leaning far more towards my Paladin due to having so many more options on the table and far less solo concerns.

Now I can barely stomach my Warrior. I still enjoy it, but since I swapped, it feels like there is no legitimate reason for me to play Warrior over my Paladin. I still do low keys now and then as Arms to break up the monotony (when not playing Ret or Resto), but Paladin has unexpectedly become my go-to character for pretty much… Well, everything.

Farming transmogs in old raids on my own, blowing people up in PvP, tanking or healing or DPS’ing wherever I want. It’s great to have more options, and so long as Paladin remains full of utility and can pump out good damage, it’ll always be useful, even if the META will encourage people to avoid taking you.

Yes, this happens. As a Keymaster (1780 purely by solo-pugging) and a fanatical dungeoneer since vanilla, I’m afraid most of my time is spent looking at a chat-box full of “Declined” @ 435il with almost every key done at 10 or higher this season, because people want… Other things. Doesn’t seem to matter that I can compete (or outright beat) any of those classes in terms of overall damage most of the time. There’s just this stigma that Ret isn’t wanted, much like what my Resto Shaman also has to suffer. Alas, that’s just the way it is, but it won’t stop you enjoying the class.

Oh , it’s a shame I can’t change class option in WoW store :frowning: Would do it and wouldn’t mind at all tbh.

Well, got a paladin in 110 and it’s a shame will have to get ilvl again (424 and it was quiet hard to get there though :D)

They used two discipline priests. Not one. But yes, it’s still impressive.

True, but you know what i mean :stuck_out_tongue:

Meh, why did Blizz make frost so bland and boring? Look at unholy, all these small things, mechanics,…wound applying/bursting…etc. What does Frost have? Nothing even remotely close to unholy. Bah
