Stick to Paladin or go full DK

So I am kinda tad bored with playing warrior. Been playing that class since early Wrath and enjoy every bit of it, but it calls for some alternatives.

Now I have levelled a Ret paladin to 110 and it was an astonishing experience . I was able to solo Wanted quests I couldn’t on my warrior, Got chance to heal and tank while throwing my shield like one specific super hero.

But I have been thinking about DK lately. Their Armor sets for Transmog (especially the blue Antorus mythic set ) and the lore… gosh the lore behind DK story is just amazing.

So guys, question remains.

Due to my lack of knowledge of anything that is not warrior, could you please tell me pluses and minuses of DK vs Pal in pretty much all aspects of the game?

DK’s PvP and how it goes in comparison to Pal PvP.

What about PvE and solo play regarding high end quests like WANTED ones?

I would appreciate your words guys.

In Raids Ret Pala is a lot better and it’s not even close. DK’s are currently in a very bad spot for Raids, both Frost and especially Unholy. Ret pala has very high burst and okayish sustained dmg. Unholy has massive burst right from the bat but then drops down bc of horrible sustained dmg. Frost DK is nothing special, its worse than Ret pala in Raids.

As for M+, i play with a Ret pala on a very regular basis and if you can play arround them and pull multiple packs so they can get a lot of out their wings then they can completely destroy the packs. However they do lack damage outside of their wings so unless you have a team that plays arround you, Ret is probably not better than decent. Unholy, if you’ve seen anything from MDI, are the Kings of aoe dmg, due to an Azerite trait they get stronger and stronger the bigger you pull bc of an uncapped Strength buff. They can be a lot of fun but just like Ret pala, if you don’t play arround the Class then you won’t do great dmg. Frost DK is very mediocre in M+, with certain talents they can either have good sustained dmg or high burst dmg but they are not a good spec for M+ and most seem to stick to Unholy/Blood.

Now im not an expert at PvP at all, highest ive ever gotten was arround 1.6ish which is quite low so others might know better. Unholy is really good for PvP from what i’ve heard/seen. The 3v3 cup was recently won by Unholy/DH comb so that should tell you more than enough i guess :slight_smile: From personal experience, they are a pain in the butt with all their diseases and slows and everything that comes with it. I have no idea how Frost is doing in PvP, i would assume they aren’t doing too good but that’s just speculation. As for Ret in PvP, they have high burst and great utility but lack dmg outside of their wings so i’d say they are alright but not too good.

Then i wonder why i never see any Frost Dks in raids, literally never.
Not in any streams i watch, not in any raids i do myself, i just never see them when they’re supposed to be good

I think that is primarily because Unholy feels better to play compared to Frost. We have two Death Knights in our raid group and neither of them play Frost because they say the gameplay is still boring.

BoS build. It’s lame, it’s boring, it’s tedious.
Simple as that, even if numbers can be met - why bother with this BS when you can just DH.

oh it is, i have tried Frost myself for some time and you couldn’t pay me to main that spec xD

For solo play and quests paladin defiantly is better than dks in dmg and sustain, but if you compare blood dk to Prot plally, both are good in sustain but the prot pally is defiantly better dmg

and as a warrior main myself, i feel warrior is better than both in dmg, and im also able to kill Coral Ancient Tree Rares in Nazjatar solo easily while still able to regenerate to full hp easily, i tried soloing them with my pally who is 435 ilvl , and i have to use CDs and heal my self every so often and takes ages for that rare to die

from my experience, paladins are better at leveling and quest no questions
and dks, specially frost is is not very great at that

the end game is different though, both dks and pallidins are good,
but i still feel warrior is the better than both for dmg

the only thing is awful about warriors is that they dont feel great without high ilvl gear

Paladin :

  • Healing, great performing spec.
  • Tanking, great performing spec that can support his allies with shields/heals as extra.
  • DPS, can do both burst and sustained dps, overall not bad.

Death Knight:

  • Blood, ok in terms of survi. But slow like a turtle and lacks dps in comparison to other tanks.
  • Unholy, great initial burst then falls off. They say it’s great for AOE, but any DH will do the same job more easly.
  • Frost, you’re forced use BoS build to squeeze these numbers out. And if so happens you have to do mechanics instead of going ham during BoS window - you’re bottom of a ladder. Beside that it’s just weaker Fury spec, with frost effects.

I’d say go with Paladin, more roles to cover and better overall performance in all of them. Esspecially if you’re bored of warior, Paladin will be more of a breath of fresh air.

Because of the Adds in phase 2. Same with the Havoc (they had less gear so they were forced to take both). We did the same and let a Frost DK handle the adds.

In terms of PvE, UH can get tedious, you have to put more effort to do comparable damage to other melee, especially in M+. VP dots, D&D, spreading and bursting wounds and popping frenzy all have to line up properly for you to do that juicy AoE damage. You need the proper trait, big pulls and longer ramp up potential to see those numbers. In raiding ST damage is mediocre at best, you will see yourself slipping down the meter after you are done with your opening burst.

Frost is outright boring. A washed down version of Fury. Many just want the 2H Frost back instead of playing like some ice-dead furious outlaw with identity crisis.

I would choose Pala because Ret is generally more forgiving, and Prot is more fun than BDK. Tier sets and lore are also great aspects for Pala.

I find DK extremely boring. Retri is fun, kills fast.

Holy is decent if you go for soon to be nerfed cookie cutter glimmer build. Otherwise mediocre.

If you want a fast paced entertaining play style I keep hearing DH is the one.
