Stop mocking the tanks!

Dear Blizzard Dev Team,

As a long-time tank main and active player, I’m reaching out with an urgent request to reevaluate the direction you’ve taken with tank design and balance — especially as we head into the next season.

Right now, the state of threat generation, damage output, and tank functionality is in a terrible place. And it’s not just an annoyance — it’s a core gameplay problem that makes playing a tank frustrating and often thankless.

1. Threat Generation and Damage Output Are Fundamentally Broken

You’ve shifted most of a tank’s damage into Hero Talents, while leaving our core abilities weak and unreliable. This approach is a disaster for multiple reasons:

  • Threat is tied too heavily to burst windows or hero talents.
  • Core abilities feel like wet noodles — no impact, no pressure.
  • Meanwhile, DPS specs are capable of dealing 50–70 million DPS on pulls, and tanks are stuck doing 10 million, praying mobs don’t peel off.

This is NOT okay. Nobody wants artificial threat multipliers like “10,000% increased threat” — we need meaningful, real damage so we can naturally hold aggro, contribute to the pull, and feel powerful.

:pushpin: What needs to happen:

  • Reduce damage in Hero Talents.
  • Significantly buff baseline damage on all tank core abilities.

That’s how you solve threat without gimmicks.

2. The Legendary Cloak Is Useless for Tanks

The latest PTR patch buffed the legendary cloak — great for DPS and healers. But for tanks? It’s practically garbage.

  • It does no damage, unlike other roles.
  • The absorb shield is weak and disappears if your HP drops below 40%.
  • Worst of all: it applies an 8-minute debuff after triggering the “Salvation” effect.

Why? Why is it that DPS and healers get a permanent, functional cloak, and tanks get a version that punishes them for doing their job?

:pushpin: Fix this:

  • Remove the 8-minute post-Salvation debuff for tanks.
  • Let the cloak deal some damage (like the head enchant did in DF Season 3).
  • Even better — give us the choice of which cloak to use. We don’t want a “tank cloak,” we want one that’s actually useful in content.

3. Vengeance DH Issues (Soul Bomb and Target Caps)

Let’s talk about Soul Bomb. It’s not just weak — it’s actively anti-synergistic with both Hero Talent trees. You’ve designed the trees in a way that essentially tells players: “Do not take this ability.” That’s terrible design.

On top of that, Soul Cleave still has a target cap, which feels outdated and unnecessarily punishing.

:pushpin: Suggested fixes:

  • Rework Soul Bomb so it’s viable again — or at least interacts meaningfully with talents.
  • Remove Soul Cleave’s target cap entirely. Let it scale with content like everything else.

Final Thoughts

You’re losing tank players — not because tanking isn’t fun, but because you’re making it miserable to do our job.

We don’t need threat multipliers.
We don’t need passive shields that disappear when we need them most.
We need to deal damage, control fights, and feel relevant.

This is not just a complaint — it’s a final warning from players who care deeply about this game and role.

You have two weeks before the next season starts. Please fix this.

Very well put as I said on the other thread as well. And again I would like to see more hero talents viable this is extremely prevalent for VDH where FelScarred is unplayable past weeklies level but I hope they do the same for other tanks as well.
