Stormwind textures remaster

So I think whenever you go to Bolarus, even WOTLK Valiance Keep (alliance base in Northrend) you see a huge gap between other locations and the Alliance CAPITAL, the main city of the alliance faction.

I understand that completely reinventing a city or designing it from scratch is a lot of work. But the very STRUCTURES of the walls, windows, even by copying them from the stormwind embassy, the walls of the valiance keep (wotlk), the WoD garrison is a “moment” of work!

Changing and adjusting colors, etc.

And so the capital of the alliance, the capital of the entire FRACTION has a design from +15 years ago, it is ugly and when you are on new content you can still see the contrast.

What do u think about it?

Needs more than a texture remaster. Compared to the newer cities like say Boralus, the asset models are a lot more simple, lot more lower polecount. You can see the difference now more clearly whenever they add more assets within the city, like the trading post. They’d really need to remodel Stormwind mostly completely again. Just looking at the canal, it’s just so very blocky when it’s supposed to have more of a curve in certain areas.

I absolutely love the fidelity of the inside of the mage portal tower, that’s really what the outside needs too.

I’d love that, Stormwind is still among the best cities of wow, certainly the most iconic. I’d throw my money at it to see it updated and also expanded, why not. That whole area with the Embassy could become a new quarter!

I really hope there comes a time when they update all major cities and the starting zones. I mean there has been rumours about the world revamp, starting with the cities and the areas around them would be a great start. Update the storylines for them, I’d create new characters just for that.

This.

I actually hate it and dislike as much as oggrimar. You are forced to go there. I would prefer for e.g. Thunder Bluff, Silvermoon, Darnassus, Dalanar, Shattrath Valdraken.

I really hope that they can make things that you can avoid visiting sw/ogr. At least as mage you have convenience to avoid these cities. But still, i hate them and dislike a lot.

Oooooo I would love a revamped version of Thunder Bluff and Silvermoon! Silvermoon especially needs a lot of love since now it’s supposed to be I think more fixed up? I mean the scourge scar will probably be there still but otherwise be in better state.

They could easily make both OG and SW look much better by simply increasing the UV-Tile scale of the textures (that means making the scale of them smaller). Like some of the Stones in SW are HILARIOUSLY BIG, beyond any realistic way of actually not crumbling under their own weight.

Like look at this: https://imgur.com/a/70APGcP

That’s way too big. Having the tile texture on a scale of 3x than the scale of what it is now would da lot better by making the stones look realistic and give it a more natural feeling without much reworking.

The thing is, stylized Art is so easy to make. I recently started doing it myself in Blender and holy hell, compared to realistic artstyle and textures it is so easy and fun to just paint on models.

As far as that matter goes yea, it sucks. Yet Stormwind was the place that made me fall in love with the game when I first started playing WoW back in TBC I think, where there still was the night elves district (the park? I don’t remember the exact name). The mage quarter was my favourite place in all of the game alongside Booty Bay, and I always tried to play Alliance races to be able to visit it. I still do that for that and many other reasons.

Anyway, from a pretty egoistical point of view, I would love to see it updated, when I think about Boralus or Suramar, Stormwind being upscaled to that standard would look gorgeous.

It’s not ugly, it’s vintage. I love it just the way it is and I’d hate to see it changing.

World recamp inc

It’s not just the polygons and texture resolution.

The artstyle having changed over the years plays a large role into it too.

True, they have refined it a quite a lot since the days of vanilla and cataclysm when Stormwind was last updated. I would since WoD it really got to that point to what WoW is artistically today, the zones there are pretty much the modern wow zones in terms of art quality.
