“Struggling to play an MMORPG alone”
when you realise I’ve pugged all the keys I’ve done as a pala tank… literally everytime in B zone in Mplus subcreation… Edit: oh they finally moved to A tier now
guess they wanted to prank me…
im sure other people have replied to this but I’ve been playing since 2005 and ill tell you what i think. First of all, playing the game solo is fine, as long as you are realistic about what you can achieve solo. I can get hc curve and push some rating through pugs but its in general a pain and troublesome, beyond that its all about enjoying other content like world events or running old raids for tmogs or playing the AH and such. Second, joining a guild for someone like you is not about making friends, its about making partners. The friendship will build up the more you’re with the same group of people. Forget about anxiety, its a game and nobody knows who you are, just be yourself, be a kind troll and be willing to ‘embarass’ yourself because at the end of it all everyone is here to have fun. Whats the worst that could happen? leave the guild? sure, you can join another one 5 minutes later.
In SL it took me months to find a nice guild, I joined a guild after running a pug with them and i enjoyed the lads but after a while they were too inactive for me and didn’t care about progressing much so i left, no hard feelings. I joined another one randomly and it turns out its the best guild i could’ve joined, they are all so good and helpful. This game is all about doing what YOU like, having someone to do it with makes it nicer
In all honesty, most mmorpgs are bad games under their shiny surface. The core gameplay isn’t anything special and every mmo out there has major flaws and issues.
Really mmorpgs just facilitate social interaction and that’s what people remember the most.
So it makes perfect sense that you’re struggling to enjoy the game solo. I would highly recommend taking the others’ advice and joining some communities - I think there are quite a few for anxious people as well. “Calm Keystones” or something, I remember hearing about that one.
My guild is incredibly accommodating to this type of behavior. I’d advise you to find yourself a casual mythic raiding guild. But make sure it’s a good one with a guild leader and raid leader who want to get things done, and not cause drama. I make mistakes, of course I do, but it’s never really a problem, because a) it’s a casual guild where people focus on fun, and b) after I mistake I try to be better.
Another thing is with anxiety. When you’re in a guild you really don’t have to talk all of the time. 90% of the time while raiding or doing dungeons, my mic is muted and it’s fine. I just hop on discord to listen for instructions.
If you’re a pugger I can totally understand your anxiety. The pug world has a tiny margin for error. But none of that will exist in a guild - there these margins are much greater, because people know you, people like you as a person and you’re much less expendable. Nobody cares about your rio or parses or anything like that. It’s really nice.
Guilds are nowhere near as scary as pugs, mate.
Yeah I kinda disagree with the recommendation to play single player games. But if you ever get bored of WoW I do actually recommend a game like Monster Hunter, which I just think is a much better game overall than WoW as a solo and/or small group experience. Also has the long-term grind factor that made me sink hours into the game.
Even when I played with randoms it was an overall pleasant experience (socially), it was magnitudes less toxic than WoW pugging has ever been, even though I actually think it’s a more frustrating game in a party (I think it’s due to communication being way more difficult due to the amount of action in the game).
IDK, I just don’t think WoW is a very good game in general really, it’s the unique social experience that makes it special for me. If you’re missing out on that part the game just isn’t worth playing.
Mmos can be played alone, wow however can not
Yes you CAN, but most of this game is designed around playing with your lads, and relying on pugs sounds like a personal hell i wouldnt wish on anyone
