So I want to rp a Vulpera. I want something chill, maybe even slightly comedic, whithout endless bagagge of lore. Mostly because I’m new to rp and I feel it would be easier for me.
Ideally, I want my character to not be the most capable person out there. I want her to fail and be “rough around the edges”, perhaps resorting to cheating and lying to get around.
But I really, really don’t want to play a rogue. I know it’s the obvious choice and probably the easiest one, but I simply do not like the class.
I have a Vulpera Monk that I would love to adapt for rp (love the class), but I’m having trouble figuring out how the class can be explained with the vibe I’m going for. I know some people play monks as street fighters and brawlers, but I feel that would immediately make her an experienced fighter, rather than some kind of cheater and I’m not sure if I want that.
I can go completely outside of the class, but afaik, that gets you weird looks.
Or I can scrap the idea altogether and level a rogue thru gritted teeth.
Please, any advice is appreciated. Any ideas for potential backstory that can explain/give reason for this class choice is welcome too. Maybe you’ve had a similar situation? What did you end up doing?
Mhh, that’s the opposite of what I want. I don’t want a fighter.
In other words, I’m trying to come up with the least non-combat class (that’s probably not a caster). Monks kinda fit? But they’re pigeonholed into Chi and Pandaren lore so much, they aren’t generic enough, and I’m worried it’s going to Bother me, to the point where I won’t be able to rp the character at all.
You don’t really need to use those abilities though. You could always be a monk OOC and a thug/thief/roughneck IC, just don’t use crackling jade lightning or invoke Nizuao. Abilities like Roll can be fun to use, along with the unique fighting style.
Not particularly. The only time that really tends to be the case with is death knights and demon hunters, beyond that there’s some degree of acceptence. There is no apothecary or medic class OOC but both of those are completely valid routes IC. If you can find a mog that works for the job your character has then you’re pretty much set.
The only shaman stuff I use is a bit of lightning, explained as being learnt from Sethrakk’s.
I think you could take a few monk abilities, have her be still learning, and be something generic IC if you want. I wouldn’t go for the class swapping e.g. ‘oh I’m a mage not a monk’ because that’s a bit of a stretch to imagine. But adventurer, mercenary, fighter, I think you can do all sorts of non-specific class things without being monk IC.
Using a hunter could be an amazing way to convey a non-combatant with a pet or a mount standin and worst case, a gun or a crossbow as a last resort personal defense.
I’ll always recommend a hunter when in doubt because you can use a lot of different types of weapons (always useful!) + having a pet in RP is so, so, good for having easy openings for RP with people
One is a shaman, but she works as a chef in Orgrimmar, selling Vol’dun food to people with her fire elemental companion.
My hunter is a salvager who is obsessed with finding gnome technology. She doesn’t understand any of it however (And causes a bit of chaos when it ‘works’)
Shaman is a perfect option for a character you don’t want to be combat oriented. Since there’s more to the elementals than what game mechanics let one to believe.
For instance:
Fire = Campfire
Air = Picking items from the top shelf
Earth = Carrying heavy loads
Water = Watering plants I guess?
Nah not at all. Only with DKs and DHs because they have unique customizations that look extemely out of place on anything that isnt meant to be a DK/DH.
If you were to portray something like a non-combatant merchant, any OOC class will do. You do not have to use any of the abilities IC, and could write something like “trader” in the TRP class field.
If its one with a surname I’m coming to set you on fire.
On the topic however, I’d go for hunter or monk.
Monk has a lot of weapon options and leather looks good on vulpera, lot of nice options.
Hunter also has a lot of choices in gear, plus the ability to have one or two pets. You can RP like a stable master or similar.
For my character I went with Shaman as I plan to have him learn more about that through RP, however at the moment he’s quite literally just a scout. But I get to play with the Vulpera lore quite a bit and that’s just enough depth for me to have a fun with! So overall don’t forget you can play a class without fully locking yourself into all it’s strings right away.
But as the poster above said, I think hunter and monk would be cool for your idea. And has a lot of room for growth through roleplay!
Actually… no
Sorry, but the Hunter is the obvious choice, or warrior
After these two a shaman or a scout (aka. Rogue)
The Vulpera caravans and burrows always need food, protection and some spiritualism… so these are the “basics” if you asks me
But a Vulpera could be anything without any “real” explanation
We are just versatile
