I think the maintenance they had last night solved it for me. I can select my characters again and the gear update processing is also done now!

Anyone that was previously stuck in this loop should be working better now. Please do let us know if that’s not the case.
The Gear Update feature remains disabled for now, but we’re working to bring it back again as soon as possible.
