It just gets stuck in an update / initialising loop.
I have tried removing all traces of battle net from my pc, including %appdata% %localdata% and program data etc, removed the WoW client and attempted a fresh re install, this wouldn’t even initialise.
I tried creating a new adm account and it wouldn’t work on that, I’ve tried a VPN, that didn’t work, I’ve rebooted my computer, tried without firewall, made a firewall exception for the battle net app. None of it has worked
I did a windows update coincidently the same day I don’t know if that’s why, or if it’s a problem on your end.
Returning to the game and also getting this issue. Tried everything I’ve seen posted and no dice. Pretty sure this must be a bug in their software at this stage.
Windows and all drivers up to date (including .NET framework).
Excluded all Battlenet/Blizzard folders from antivirus
Completely removed all files and reinstalled.
Restarted PC obviously.
Bizzard really needs to get some response to this that isn’t just a stock support desk tripe. I play tons of games and haven’t had a problem like this with a game in years.
Possibly managed to get this past the initializing stage…
In the following location are two folders containing the executables and a bunch of dlls for launching either classic or retail. (retail and classic)
C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft
I deleted the retail folder entirely and copied the classic folder. Renamed the copy to retail and relaunched battlenet as admin. Did a scan and repair but it was still stuck on initializing.
Then went into the retail folder and deleted everything while it was still in this state. After a few seconds it started filling up the folder again and has kicked off the download now.

Initializing usually means something is downloading in the background which happens to me at every patch. Check your network activity with Task Manager by clicking the network header a few times.
If you manually changed your DNS to google or something, removing could help on patch day. If you did not understand this sentence then you are fine
