STV event, an unmitigated disaster

I will start with a disclaimer, and point out that I may be playing this event wrong.

Having said that, iv been playing WoW for near 2 decades now. And honestly, iv seen some bad designs “cough” Rogue pvp, any xpac “cough”, and many horrible game modes and maps, BFA brings a lot of bad designs to mind.

But in an ocean of new and fresh that is SoD (For me anyways), the STV event is just horrendous. I am not writing out of rage, or salt, or anything similar. And I thank God that I only needed to do about 5-6 of these to get my wep. But this is such a disaster, there is no orientation of any kind, no focus point. And the debuff idea that just got implemented is just there to punish and annoy. You get nothing for killing people with it, in fact you lose resources.

On top losing coins, and what feels like a 15-20% loss when you die at times is just there to make sure you never come back. Why does this exist ? Is getting away from the GY point not annoying enough when 50 people are rezzing every few sec ? What is the design ? I really feel sorry for any class with out stealth. Because as soon as you rez, the dumb will you attack you, regardless of the debuff existing.

You are rewarded for sitting in stealth, and letting your team fight the enemy. Or ! Running towards a turn in point and ganking there. Because if you die ? No loss, you already turned in your coins.

The “Bosses” going around make no difference. Unless they ofc get stuck around res points, or turn in points. Then they again, just add to the annoyance of the event. And many times even when you kill people that have no debuff, you still dont get coins, and then you die, and lose. I do assume its a bug, but God damn does it feel bad.

The classes that get rewarded are the ones that can hit and run, so Boomies, Hunters, now even SPs with their high burst etc. Melee ? Well… “the night is dark and full of terrors”.

TLDR: No real design, no logic behind it. Does not feel tested what so ever. I really wish Blizzard sticks to just making PvE events like Ashennvale from now on. While it was not ideal, it was at least not annoying to the absolute core.

At this point I would have rather they just gave us 2 new BGs than these garbage PvP events. Like both of them have been a total joke and have been riddled from the get go with unintended mechanics that have resulted in a massive power gain or time reduction on rep for a lot of players. Now the rest of us just gotta suck it up and sit through this shower of s**t until you farm enough points/rep etc for your items.

Like they could have easily made 2 new BGs based on the same concept of Ashenvale & STV that would have lasted throughout the whole of SOD.

Im generally fine with events, as they at times to make winners. But this one ? Not it. Unless its changed, a lot.

I agree. I think this event in particular is worst for melee xD they farm 0 coins haha.

I was quite excited for this event but ended up very disappointed.

I only got to play the event after the hotfix came out, which solved nothing but limiting the amount of coins people were earning as I hear it being told from friends. Sure enough the debuff that you’re worth no coin solved little as you will get slapped the moment you respawn, I found out.

As it stands right now I would’ve liked for the event to truely be everyone against everyone, no grouping at all. The event currently consists of 5man groups and if you aren’t in one you won’t make much progress.

Since I had no chance alone against 5man groups I tried to sneak away from the action and farm whatever coins I could manage from killing mobs, at which point I realised that I was again just doing PvE rather than PvP so I feel like this event missed the mark.

I am not looking forward to the grind ahead of me. I suppose I have to try harder to find a 5man group to properly get to partake in the event as at this point its not worth trying without one.

I also feel like every 3 hours for 30 minutes is way too little, either bump up the frequency of the event or increase its duration. Since opt-outs are available for people who don’t want to partake I fail to see where this could be an issue.

EDIT:

It seems a meta has formed where you have two options. Either you play as a boomkin or priest that groups up with other boomkins and priests. Alternatively you can play a stealth class and group up with other stealth classes. These setups are basically oneshotting everyone and gives them no chance to fight back.

The event is also very laggy, the numerous bugs of not getting credit for kills and even losing your blood is NOT good.

Also to touch on what I said in my original post, the hotfix that added a debuff that makes you not worth any coins has done nothing to prevent spawn camping, It is indeed an unmitigated disaster. All it has achieved is to slow down how much coins the meta groups are making whilst non-meta groups or people who are solo gain next to nothing in comparison.

I don’t know what more I can say other than that I feel like I am wasting my time and even if I partake in the dirty meta-groups that has formed I am still not having fun.

Just farm gold and wait for the inevitable 3-4 man carry teams that you join for gold

Strongly agree with your Gottwald, I feel like it hasn’t been tested at all because it’s full of flaws. The debuff we getting when we leave the graveyard for exemple is such a weird game design decision. Why not make people “ghostly” for 30sec when they leave the graveyard? Instead we get people camping the graveyard and waiting for people to have only 5 seconds left on their debuff to get killed in a couple of hits.

You add on top of that the fact that there’s a real problem right now in pvp with damage compaired to the health we got. Having a full health, fully geared warrior one shotted by a single shadow bold crit is not a fun sight. That plus the rogues that get a huge advantage or the druids that can basically two shot cloth wearer. Changes are heavily needed, i’ll play the event myself just to get the items i need and i’ll never step foot in STV again, not until changes are made.

Whoever designed this event, resign. Do us that favour.
Then, nerf ALL damage during this, it’s a 2 shot simulator atm, WAY to much damage, WAY to much people and a completely ineffective debuff that noone cares about.

The thing I love most about this event is the fact that after they did a fix of some sort, I dont even get blood in a 1v1 if my PET gets killing blow  gotta love it.

Tested on 4 kills now, all yellow lvl, none where opted out

Ashenvale pvp event was better.

STV event works only if you in a seriously dedicated group of 5.

I recommend it for everyone.

But… You are right about those things, design and core idea is poorly made.

P2 is okay, but this pvp event needs some serious changes if Blizzard wants players to even play it more than once.

Done it today with my feral, not stepping again unless something serious changes. Why are you even allowing groups, freaking getting farmed by groups of 5 ranged that can 1 shot. Can’t even play it solo, it was brought as ‘don’t you dare to group up’ …
The whole you get nothing even though you tried hard is really sucky, at least at ashenvale event there was always a bit of rep to gain for trying with your faction.

I legit had to get back all the half arsed Boomie gear that I sold. Respect to Boomie to be able to get some coins.

The lag is unplayable, you cant even trinket stuns because the game has not registered the cc, yet you are just standing there, not moving, and not able to use your trinket. Next thing you see yourself at the GY with 20 debuffs still ticking off.

The only “real” way to play this horrible event ? Get 4 Boomies or SP or Hunters and a healer. And form a kill line in the Arena. Walls protect you from the sides, and the small incline in the road makes sure people have to come towards you to be able to hit, else you are losing them.

In general there are a few other places, but that one is by far the best, because you can turn marks in very fast and lose nothing if you die.

Boss eventually comes towards the Arena near the end, so you get bonus coins for killing people near it.

Yes the event is an absolute disaster beyond redemption. I wish could choose to unsubscribe from Classic part of the game and keep my retail subscription. War Mode, Mob tagging systems, complete seperation of pve and pvp gear and different values for spells in both pvp and pve situations aswell as overall pvp balance of the game is beyond anything classic.

Blizzard literally made P2 of this SoD to prove that anything “muh vanilla” crowd wanted was just a huge roll back in quality of life and any evolution this game had in past 20 years. It’s just great that after everyone exploited the everliving thrall out of the system and got all the rewards in one night also.

In fact it is mandatory to do this event for pve purposes is just the cherry on top. Good job SoD team /s

This is what happens when the one in charge takes his orders directly from tryhards, elitists, “content creators”, actual RMTers, basically the ones who end up controlling the servers economy and pvp scene.
Just lazy slap some abilities from other xpacs and not even have the insight to up the hp at least doubling it for the instant unmitigated dmg you barf in the game at this lvl.

After the stuff with restedxp i wouldn’t be surprised for more to come after this fiasco.

This event should be opt-in.
Flew to Booty Bay to get boat to Ratchet and landed in the middle of the Blood Moon event and got totally owned by high levels…
Think I’ll avoid STV for this phase of the game

Its IMPOSSIBLE to play, with the extreme amount of lag. cant believe they cant fix anything at Blizzard. 20 years and still developing servers on potatos. @Blizzard what are u even doing?

agree, blizzard sat in a puddle one more time

The first event you have to beat ? Not having the game layer people away mid event/combat.

u can opt in there is a npc there does it at rebel camp for alliance

Can’t wait for this, being a warrior.
