[Sub Rogue] Changes i'd like to see

After having played assa for all of BFA, i am now trying to switch over to sub and there are a few things i truely dislike about it (note that i mostly pvp, around 2700 rating) :

  • Symbols of Death
    Basically this ability is only used in combinaison with shadow dance, in pve there is no issue since you can macro both. However in pvp more often than not you will dance into cheapshot or sap THEN symbols to regain energy. At first glance you might think it is a cool ressource management ability but in reality it is not, you will allways press it in the same sequence : Dance, Sap/Cheapshot, Symbols with no exception. Imo such ability doesn’t deserve a key press in it’s current state. I would highly suggest to either remove the damage gain component and give it some usefulness outside of dance so it’s not allways used in combinaison, or remove it entirely and bake it into dance.

  • Redundant Cooldowns
    As mentionned above i do not like how symbols works, but as a whole when you want to burst as sub rogue now you have to press Shadow Blades, Dance, Symbols, Cold Blood. This is 4 abilities that virtually do nothing else than “increase your damage”, and more often than not you will just macro all of these together. Cold Blood in it’s current state is too good not to take, and i do not think it is an interesting ability as you will just put it in a macro and never actively think about it. I would like to see Cold Blood either removed or changed into an ability that feels good to press.

  • No PvP Talent Choice
    Lock in Cold Blood, Smoke Bomb, Shadowy Duel and move on. You have litteraly 0 room for personnal preference, these 3 talents are just too good not to take. I would like to see Smoke Bomb baseline for every rogue spec, cold blood removed since it is very boring, and some new cool pvp talents to be added.

  • Shiv / Shuriken Throw
    While i appreciate that they give us new abilities, as someone who played assa and outlaw during all of BFA, coming from Poisonous Throw and Pistol Shot which are both good ability, being given Shiv and having a useless shuriken throw feels like a very sad downgrade. I think they couldve easily given Shuriken throw a slow effect just like for the other rogue specs and then shiv wouldnt have been needed at all in the kit, which imo would feel a lot better. Right now 40 energy for 1cp and mediocre damage and nothing else feels really really bad to press, and as the outlaw and assa versions are really good, you usually end up having a good keybind for shuriken throw if you keep keybinds consistency accross your specs, and it’s really not worth pressing ever.

TLDR : Sub has 4 cooldowns just to “increase damage”, symbol and cold blood are disapointing, no slow on shuriken throw makes it feel terrible, shiv given as an ability isnt amazing and couldve been spared if we had slow on shuriken

I agree with most of what you pointed and I will add to it.

Shiv is a great ability but it’s a weaker version of what it was in a previous expansion where it would never miss. You could basically apply it into a warrior’s retaliation or a rogue’s evasion so it felt good and useful. On top of that it doesn’t remove enrages anymore (with berserker rage in mind).

As you said, most of the offensive cooldowns are nobrainers and that’s a shame. Especially blades that you use in opener and symbols on dance. Cold blood however can also be used outside of dance for surprise damage with vanish for example, so I don’t have a problem with its design.

Besides that, I wouldn’t mind having gouge back for cleaner setups !
