Subscription ≠ Premium

Why do we assume that a subscription based game means it’s a premium game? If you think about it it only encourages time wasting to get more sub money. It explains all time wasting in this game.

It is not an assumption, it is what it is called in the industry.

Also wow is not a premium game. Premium refers to the paid version of a FREE product (either program or game), which where the term “freemium” comes from.

As for wow, they have made plainly clear what their priorities are:

  • Main metric is Monthly Active Users.

  • Provides season every 6 months and minor patches each 2 months

  • Introduced “free” in game shop that rewards are cycled monthly.

Somewhere in there they also try to provide a good game experience, but it remains to be seen how high in their list it is. As for them going out of their way to waste your time, only as for you not to unsub

A game, just like any other business needs to make money. No money, no game.

Especially if a game is live service you have a few ways to make money:

1: Sub fee
2: pay to play, but you have a lot of convenience and cosmetic on the store, and you make people pay for dlcs.
3: Free to play. And you almost always have pay to win.

They have their own advantages and disadvantages.
