ok just wondering if i send some gold via mail to a friend can they use the gold in mailbox to buy a subscription via wow token their subs has lapsed at the moment and are unsubbed.
Nope they cant, atleast on classic.

Only gold in retail mailboxes is counted when buying from the character select screen.
If you send gold in Classic, they must still have gametime to take it and buy it from the AH.
Gold can only be used to buy 60 days gametime blocks and not subscriptions as an sidenote.
