Sudden lag spike issues

Hello there. I’ve been experiencing weird lag since yesterday. It seems most severe in dungeons (I’m running around Boralus casting spells and it’s perfectly fine most of the time). In dungeons I get massive lag spikes (3-5 seconds).

I’m playing from Canada and I’m used to a solid 150ish MS. My MS is now up to 208ms home and like 300ish world out of the blue. I’ve taken the usual steps to see if I could find a solution and I could not. I’ve renewed IP, flushed DNS, tried without addons, done scan and repair, checked my settings, reset my router several times, cleared up network devices. My pathpings to Blizzard EU WoW servers show 0% packet loss.

Nothing else seems to lag on my end, it’s only WoW and at least seemingly only in instances. My ping in Boralus is slightly higher than usual but not to the point of being very noticeable. Instances are unplayable.

Help?

Bump, issue persists.

There were a number of rather serious DDoS attacks that affected major ISPs all across the US and Canada yesterday, so there is a chance you’re seeing some “aftershocks” from that.

More specifically: in many cases DDoS attacks are defended against via ISPs making changes to their routing, especially altering the path and priority of certain types of data packets. These mitigation techniques tend to stay active for a while past the initial DDoS having subsided so there is often some “residual” damage for a few hours or days afterwards.

Beyond that: latency issues that most notably occur in dungeons or general group-content can be related to certain addons, especially the “data crawler” types like damage trackers and such. Doing a clean run of the game is definitely worth a shot, to see if it makes any difference for you.

Hey! Thank you so much for your response. I already tried a clear run of the game and it made no difference. But the DDoS prospect sounds very likely to be the reason of my issues. I’ll give it a few days to see if it settles

Happy to help!

If things won’t settle down on their own please feel free to come by again, and ideally bring WinMTR results with you - we should be able to figure out if there are any undue delays/losses or other routing abnormalities going on.

Right, I’m having no luck over here. Yesterday was completely stable and I was able to play some group content. But today the lag is back and even worse than before. This time WinMTR actually shows significant packet loss whereas when I first made the topic, there was none. I’d like to stress that this is extremely unusual, since usually I have no issues whatsoever on EU servers. Here’s the WinMTR stats from all 3 EU WoW IPs available for testing.

Issue persists. This is what it looks like in-game btw.

This has been happening to me a lot lately too, but I live in Sweden. Something is borked with the Blizzard servers. The AMS1 server is a problem in Overwatch too, just like there’s problems in WoW. The issue starts when you reach the netherlands, the nodes that are having high ping are blizzard’s nodes.

I am experiencing that as well - lag spikes, random dcs it started around 2 days ago

I have same issue. Massive packet loss and lag starting from blizzard-ic-348623-adm-b2.c.telia net but worst one by far is ae1-br01-eqam1.as57976 net

Been seeing the same since yesterday.

Lag is experienced as if everything is frozen, can’t cast and such, but chat is working just fine. Can’t log out or exit game, just alt+F4.

eqam1 that is causing problems here as well it seems.

Weird thing is that everything works fine for 10-15 minutes after joining the game, then it just starts slowing down and slowing down untill everything is just stuck.

Been having these latency issues aswell, started yesterday. In-game latency suddenly jumps from 40 to several thousand and lasts for a few minutes at a time.

as57976. net is also blizzard and i have the same problem from past 2weeks +300ms peak hours

Leveling at quiet times (thank goodness for timezones) seems alright. Trying to do anything at all during peak hours is practically impossible. Can we get a response on this? There’s a lot of threads now.

Now benched from the mythic raid roster until this issue is resolved… so bump.

EDIT: Today had been completely stable and my static MS has gone back to roughly where it normally is.
