Good evening people of Azeroth, i’m in need of a suggestion.
I have started today and i would like to know a good server where i can try many aspects of the game: PvE, PVP, can you suggest me one where people do those 2 activities daily?
also i have read that there is also roleplay? How does it work?
Are player able to make their own quest /item like with an editor?
There are indeed RP realms. One of the biggest ones is Argent Dawn, where I’ve always played.
There aren’t any extra game mechanics on RP realms, although there are some RP focussed addons which allow Roleplayers to interact with each other a bit more richly, design their bio’s and that sort of thing.
The main difference with RP realms is that you will find a lot more players who like to play in character and guilds focussed around roleplaying. There is an unofficial guideline on RP servers that Say and Yell text should be kept in character, but not everyone follows this. You do tend to see a bit less of the KK BRUH LOLOLXD kind of stuff in chat though
As long as you don’t actively disrupt roleplayers doing their thing then you should get along fine on an RP realm. You’ll probably find though that they aren’t maybe as competitive on the raiding/PVP scenes as some other realms.
What the people here should also point out is that if you go to Argent Dawn, which I don’t suggest you do, but instead pick the lesser RP realms so you don’t get lag bombed every evening, most of them being connected to Argent Dawn, you should also consider that on these servers the Alliance is the dominant faction so world PVP might be quite rough on a person just starting the game, if you pick Horde that is. Fortunately you also have the option to opt out of it until you feel you are ready, but I think you should be aware of those facts.
Well if you want to role-play you can just type in the /say chat function. People also host large RP events during the year. There are sadly no such things as role-play gameplay features. But I do recommend checking out the server and seeing it for yourself!
Well i want to try everything the game has to offer, that’s why i asked about RP becouse it looked really interesting, to bad that we cant create your own quest/dungeon.
Personally I’ve never experienced any lag issues specific to AD. As with any busy server when there are events such as the recent Icecrown rares that result in very large numbers of players swarming one mob then you may se some lag but this is certainly not an AD specific thing.
I don’t PVP but it is certainly true to say though that the Alliance outnumber the horde on AD fairly significantly
OP, If you prefer a quieter server though then AD is not the best choice as it is pretty high pop. I don’t soubt that we’ll be seeing queues as soon as SL launches!
Sites like this will give you an idea of realm populations, you want to be on a realm dominated by your faction in order to give you the greater choice of guilds and for them to have the bigger pool of players to recruit from. Everything else you do in the world is done in shards, unless you choose an RP server. I would personally not advise anyone joining an RP server unless it’s something that interest them. There are however no rules preventing anyone from playing on them. The Alliance are the majority on Argent Dawn btw.
As we are about to go into the launch for Shadwolands you may want to avoid Draenor or Silvermoon as they will suffer the most with their high populations. However if you find somewhere you want to be in the long term on either realm, it might be worth the short term aggravation.
If you are interested in raiding I would recommend you have a look at the realms progress and whether or not any guilds are advertising that would interest you.
There are also official forums for recruitment
Some guilds will also advertise on the individual realm forums
No, players are not able to create their own quests or items.
As for servers, teasing out all the factors and the history of changes is a book’s worth of argument, but this is the Prime Directive:
Your choice of realm will depend on your choice of faction. Horde one way, Alliance the other.
If I was choosing for a generic new player, I would say Silvermoon for Alliance, Draenor for Horde. As Punyelf notes, these are the largest servers, and they are subject to lag and even queues in the first few weeks of an expansion, and they also have spam offers for boosts in Trade Chat, but that is worth it in the long term. If you think this is going to bother you too much, though, you can choose another server that is still High-pop and overwhelmingly in your faction’s favour, but not quite so full:
A few English realms are unofficially colonised by non-English speakers, so it’s worth making a level 1 Human or Orc and running to Stormwind or Orgrimmar first to soak up the Trade Chat and see what the ambiance is like.
If you are set on RP, and especially Alliance RP, then Argent Dawn is your pick. But look before you leap. Yes, there are addons speciically for RP - well at least one, Total RP3 https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/total-rp-3
Heh, then you haven’t seen Stormwind during the first evening of the event. The lag got so bad there you couldn’t even leave the instance. I actually made it from Stormwind to Nathanos’ spawn point and I was still in trade chat.
Thank you two for the tips, at this point I plan to make an ally character on AD to see how roleplay is (even if it is differ from what I expected) and an horde one on a regular one, so I can experience the quests of both factions
Yeah to be fair, I only have one Alliance character that I hardly ever play so I haven’t been to Stormwind for a while. I imagine it can get fairly busy
This is definitely good advice. You can never unsee what you see in Goldshire.
