Yes, we’re all praying and begging for a rework, but in the meantime, I’d like for the class tuning to continue for a few more weeks and get WW in a more acceptable spot.
To that end, I propose another 8-9% aura buff on top of the 6% from last week, which should finally allow us an average raid dps at end-game ilvl.
Additionally, I genuinely believe it would be a healthy change if Strike of the Windlord had its aoe cap completely removed, or at least have secondary target or square root scaling starting at something like 8 targets. It currently has one of the harshest aoe caps in the game (other than spells that are specifically designed as cleave or single target), never dealing more than two times its base damage on any amount of targets.
Similar abilities on other specs either are fully uncapped, have their scaling kick in at a much higher threshold, or merely have reduced damage to secondary targets, such as Wake of Ashes on Retribution Paladin, Essence Break on Havoc, and Secret Technique on Subtlety, respectively. These are only a few examples, with many specs (even melee) having far more aoe scaling and instant aoe burst than windwalker. It seems like SotWL’s greatly reduced potency might be more of an oversight than an intended design, even if the change was originally intentional in Legion.
These two changes would probably put us in a pretty solid spot for both raid and keys, while I don’t think we’d become weirdly OP or anything (perish the thought).
Boys dont cry look at state of warriors and be happy the spot ur in. Playing ww monk and oh god what a dmg it can do. Im 456 with bad gear bad stats and only 1 embel and alrdy doing tons of dmg close to my 484 warrior s
For what it’s worth, this post was made before the nice buffs we got on dec 19th
But you really shouldn’t be beating characters that are 30 ilvls higher than you, so you might be doing something wrong on your warrior.
I would like to add, kill the double aoe death touch talents… they were garbage to play with in S1 and they still are …
Any WW worth their salt can easily dominate low keys with that talent, but it falls of sooooo hard … and in the lowish key bracket, where the majority of players are, it’s cancer to be in a group with that death touching monk who just deletes entire packs every 2min.
As compensation for the removed talents, add the current 2set to the talents instead, this tier bonus is awesome imo, it was great in legion, and it still is.
isn’t it great design to spam 2 skills during serenity and ignoring everything else?
for me actually the worst part of ww aoe is mark of the crane which in the beginning of a pull clashes with sky touch
finally it is known forever that wws scaling is just terrible and the reason for that is also that haste is a stat we ideally would like to have absolutely 0 from. Most classes favor haste over everything else, while ww wants 0, which is crazy
That’s not how it worked in legion, it was still uncapped and like 40% per stack. SCK still cost 3 chi back then, so it was much more about gathering as many stacks as you could and then setting up 3-4 SCKs before they start to expire. In certain pulls, you could get 20+ stacks of motc going.
Also, it still works like that with SEF. If you don’t fixate, each spirit will seek out an unmarked target so you get 3 marks per cast. I also believe that the current duration of motc is as long as it has ever been. The reason it went down to 5 from 6 was to make it line up with its square-root-scaling threshold, which is 5 targets. They may even have given sck a slight buff when they made that change, I can’t quite remember. Wouldn’t be relevant anyway with all the tuning patches since then.
TL;DR, Spinning Crane Kick still works almost exactly like you’re asking for, and the max stack amount isn’t that important when the baseline damage is good.
EDIT: I realize now that you meant 3 stacks on one target with SEF. Few things about that:
it was never intended, just a bug
it wouldn’t make sck worth casting on single target, so what’s the point
