Suggestion: Warcraft 4 (up to World Soul Saga)

I would recommend you to read this:
https://www.eurogamer.net/the-hero-factory-interview

Basically old interview by metzen, where he says how much marvel inspires him

There is a difference between inspiration and and just feeling like some bland rip off tho.

The dragonflight ending felt like a bland rip off , but in old wow i never felt like warcraft was trying to be some marvel clone. But now with the dragonflight main plot writing. it feels like that. the bland villain wich goes rawr me smash without any backstory and then after getting killed off everyone talks about the power of friendship family and filled diapers. It just feels like its no longer an inspiration but just what to copy

To me it didn’t feel like Marvel. I thought the ending in particular is fine. What I didn’t like about this tier is how clichĂ© fyrrak has been and that fyrakk didn’t show his teeth enough basically. Another thing I disliked is that the vibe in general of the game feels too
I can’t think of a word that communicates it without being offensive to someone. Fyrakk was not angry enough for me personally.

Honestly, im one of those that does not care about the story.

Simply because its just way too long of a time-span to figure out.

Just think about it: The “followup” or “conclusion” or whatever you call it to WotlK happened in SL
 almost 10 years later.

There is still a sword stuck in Silithidus
and apparently we will see a conclusion to that
 7 years later (I think)

Deathwing
 well its a dejavu now
 but since Cata

How can I be invested in a stories like that?

Given the criminal amount of time that we’ve been waiting for it, surely their next RTS should be Starcraft

Ok, thank you for finding a quote. And I would withdraw my statements if it wasn’t for one thing. Your example is flawed.

Making new Warcraft games since WOW’s launch has already been done. Hearthstone and now Rumble are two examples of that, but I wouldn’t call any of the lore that happens in its canon. A new RTS game may happen sure, but it wouldn’t be mainline lore like how the old RTS games were. That’s why I said WC4 will never happen, because they’ll never call a spin-off game WC4. That is why I also used very specific language:

WOW is the mainline Warcraft game, and that won’t change anytime soon.

As for what I said here:

I was right. To quote the same article:

“World of Warcraft has continually moved forward, and there are a lot of stories that they want to wrap up and characters they want to revisit. The 20th anniversary is the perfect time for this, though the team has never planned this far in advance before, but now they know where they’re going for a good period of time, which allows them to lean into it and create better threads between each plot point - similar to how the Marvel Cinematic Universe has told ongoing stories across multiple movies.”

In that description, they never described their MCU-like plans to be creating movies. It was about creating multiple expansions that link in with each other. They were also specific about World Of Warcraft, not Warcraft itself.

I don’t think I ever said in this thread they won’t stop making Warcraft content. New games and movies will keep being made. That doesn’t mean they’ll be part of the core canon the the warcraft universe, which is WOW.

Edit: I should say that if they do a game/movie/show of something that’s already happened in Wow or the old RTS games, that’s different. I’m talking about new lore only.

I am totally onboard with your game suggestion.

I mostly got caught on this part:

I don’t think a game is gonna solve the mess that is warcraft lore.
Another game could possibly mess it up more without a solid source material to go off of.
We can’t base it off of the RTS or WoW because every player did things slightly differently and there has been a lot of retcons over the years.
While we can see the big picture the details are very blurry and almost impossible to make out.

That is why I want an animated series to be that solid foundation for the lore of the warcraft universe, at least for the main story.

WoW has already opened Pandora’s box with time travel and alternate universes so it’s fine that WoW keeps its creativity to make it work as an MMO and to add comedy to the game but so much of WoW should not be canon imo, the murloc universe for example

Hearthstone and Rumble has even more of those themes which works great for those games but they shouldn’t be considered part of the warcraft lore.

but we have been waiting for a new warcraft rts game longer than starcraft. Why should it be starcraft? Starcraft 2 came out a long time after wc 3

Wow, so all that text by you, because you didn’t bother to read my thread :exploding_head:

Uh no, you talked about WC4. WC4 is a new mainline game in the Warcraft universe. You then compared the Warcraft universe to the MCU, which Holly and John never did.

You also talked about:

They’d change events, so it’s not conflicting with the existing lore set later. Which is new lore. Besides, they wouldn’t call a game like that WC4 as the game would effectively be a spin-off.

Did you not read my response?

WoW is officially a sequel to WC3 is it not? A sequel doesn’t have to be the same genre

It would be a proper sequal if it stayed a rts. Since its a completely different game WoW counts more as a spin off IMO
