Suggestion: Warcraft 4 (up to World Soul Saga)

Understanding the story is a mess. Streamlining old content is a waste of time and ressources. How does someone experience the story in a good way? There is no real way.

My suggestion would be to create Warcraft 4. Warcraft 4 could be an Action RPG Game mixed with RTS elements of commanding armies. It should cover the entire story after Warcraft 3 up to and including the World Soul Saga.

It could be hyped up similar to Diablo 4 by porting Warcraft 1-3 to console with similar console implementation as age of empires 4

I don’t think Reforged went too well in the end. So I’m not sure they’d try for a 4.

Not my cup of tea.

As for storytelling I don’t think there is any way you can experience the game like someone who plays every expansion while it’s current. I think the Chromie time option at least gives you the chance to experience an expansion in it’s own right.

I always get the impression that the bulk of the player base don’t care for the story much. They just blast through levelling to get to end game. There are ofc those that do care. Not denying that.

Thats an insane amount of lore to pack into a single game, like unless this is some arcade type thing, every mission would have to encompass it’s own expansion, which wouldn’t be able to tell the story properly to say the least.

Perhaps they coulld do cata up to wod, so the whole wrathion thing and garrosh, but I’d already say that’s alot, so I dunno how well this would be in terms of delivering story, atleast better than wow.

WC4 will never happen while WOW is still a thing. Part of me wants a brand new RTS game (considering I’ve never experienced the original ones and don’t plan to).

My suggestion would be to make it a game similar to something like the witcher 3 with additional rts features, i.e. commanding armies, etc.

I think wow being alive is actually a good reason to release something like that, because there is an existing audience

It depends how much you wanna tell. If you think about the content of the actual main story without the useless things, it could be packed without cutting too much out into a ~150 hours game

No, you misunderstand.

If WOW is still being developed, why would they spend the money and time to make another Warcraft game when they can just put the story into WOW?

Because there is demand for warcraft that exceeds wow as a game. Retail wow is niche, but the demand for warcraft is pretty big in general.

And yeah: Obvious answer is to make money, and to get more people from other platforms invested in the warcraft universe.

I love your idea of an action RPG with RTS elements, that could be very interesting.

But as for retelling the previous stories our best bet is an animated series.

Us players are not really part of the story.
In the lore the events play out a little differently.
For example, it was Varian Wrynn that killed Onyxia.

An animated series would be a great way to go through the warcraft lore, clear up some mistakes and tie up lose ends.
It would also introduce new players to the warcraft universe while bringing back old once as well.
Also a perfect opportunity to build up the story of old characters and add new ones for the future.

Well what if you could play as varian? I wanted to suggest a game like Baldur’s Gate 3 that you play either alone or co-op. Not some mmo, or something.

You could also split it up in multiple campaigns. Like having a campaign where you play as garrosh, and another one as thrall. Hope that makes sense. Could come with DLCs etc.

in blizcon there was this dude that came from microsoft and he was talking in riddles naming dead games like starcraft, like he was talking to those fans of these games. so i have a feeling some form of RTS will come back in the future.

How about : NO. If they make a new wc 3 it should ignore wow lore and do its own story and continue from the frozen throne. The story is told differently in a rpg game and theres been so any lorelols and retcons in wow it wuldnt translate well

Thats because wc3 reforged was absolutely terrible. I still played wc 3 from time to time before reforged. Now i havent touched it since they absolutely ruied the game.

WC3 was a purposeful attempt to kill the warcraft rts series. False promises, bad choices, removing features, it not working properly, most custom games no longer being avaible for a long time after launch.

And they even went so far to force the big patches and updates upon everyone who connected to the internet with the original game. So Even the older version got ruined and people who played it with potato pcs couldnt play it anymore due to the big forced ptch.

It could have been good, but it was not doing well because they had false advertising and the reforged version was absolute dog crap.

It would have done better if they did not absolutely butcher the game. It reminds me of conmmand and conquer tiberian twilight. A butchered absolutely everything about what made the command and conquer games good. Nobody liked it andthus the company concludes “oh i guess people dont like rts games anymore”

theres plenty of people who like it but they dont want some absolutely butchered game

Oh, no doubt!

I just don’t think they’ll do another mainline Warcraft game while WOW exists.

It’s like SWTOR. SWTOR officially killed any chance that a KOTOR3 was coming out anytime soon.

You’re wrong. They already said they wanna make warcraft like the MCU, where they produce movies, other games, etc.

Just having wow-only for an IP like that would be a waste imo.

That would be really cool.
I actually suggested a couple weeks ago in a thread about “WoW2”.
That is would be better to make an action-adventure rpg or similar with realistic graphics rather than change WoW into using realistic graphics.
And there I suggested playing through the major events in the warcraft universe as those major characters, like how we play as those characters in the RTS game campaigns.

But if we are gonna focus on lore I still put my vote on an animated series because there is just more freedom in showing and telling the story.

But I am still very much on board with more warcraft games in other genres.
But they probably need a cohesive story to bring people in first.
At the moment warcrafts story feels very messy.

I just don’t see the benefit of making another warcraft mmorpg, when there already are 5. Would make more sense to have warcraft games for different genres that could complement eachother

I don’t care about your statements. You put too much importance on yourself

Am I?

Sorry for using logic and common sense, but if you have a platform for telling all the stories you want, why do you need another one?

Besides, that’s not what they said. The MCU quote is linked to the fact that they want to create multiple expansions that link into one whole story, aka the ‘World Soul Saga’. There was no talk of movies or other games regarding WOW’s lore at throughout Blizzcon.

If you can find a quote, I’ll withdraw my statements.

Just give me a quote if you’re so confident that you’re right. I’ll happily withdraw my statements if you’re correct.

Same, that was my reply too to the thread that it makes no sense to make another warcraft mmorpg when we already have different versions.
It’s better to focus on singleplayer or co-op games that would actually be able to handle realistic graphics with smooth gameplay while also offering a completely new way to experience the warcraft universe.

Yeah that’s basically my suggestion

→ You can use search machines too, but I feel nice today, because it’s christmas soon

Quote from article above:

" The Warcraft movie was one of the big reasons they reorganized from World of Warcraft into the Warcraft Universe, which Holly is part of the leadership of. Everything begins with someone’s passion about an idea, which is evaluated as to how it works for Warcraft as a whole - for example, Warcraft Rumble was built with the understanding that some players may not have any previous experience with the Warcraft franchise. One of the big reasons Chris Metzen is back is to be the arbiter of what’s in and what’s out. Warcraft is a universe - they’re starting with games, but they will be expanding beyond that…

They weren’t kidding about three decades of Warcraft either; it’s the current developers goal that the Warcraft universe live beyond them, handing it off to a new group of creatives working on platforms that might not have even been imagined yet."

its fine if they want to do movies or shows and other games. The worrying thing is they want to be like marvel. I dislike most marvel stuff. And this clearly has bled trough into the game. Thts why we got the dragon power rangers moaning about the power of family and friendship.

Wanting to produce stuff like them is fine. Just dont copy their terrible writing
