Could you create chat API in your game client for some third party sowtware for translating chats , or put into your game shop acces to some cloud (google cloud API , . etc ) translator that automaticaly translate the mesages in the game chats
That would be a tricky API to get implemented into WoW. This is due to the fact it would need to be always connected to a database to pull the different languages to do the translation and then return the results (which could cause load issues for either the server holding the translation API, but also a load on the client, when sending & receiving the data.
So in terms of a 3rd party software, I think that would be in violation of the EULA, even though there is nothing malicious happening.
But the idea of having an up-to-date and accurate translation addon, could make things easier for a lot of people who are not native English speakers and vice versa.
But as mentioned as it couldn’t be a 3rd party piece of software, with it being an addon, it would be a huge addon in size, so it could be a bit for those who are limited on hard drive space, but also a challenge for the team behind that addon to also make sure things are accurate/updated.
Then you’d have to think, would it be for all languages, for just the main ones that are spoken in Europe. This could then lead to people requesting languages to be added as they’re from x country etc.
The idea is nice overall, but putting it into action would be a pain, even with AI to assist with such an addon, if the no-really-AI tools out there can help.
