Suggestions for Ele

I think Blizz need to wipe the slate clean with Ele and change the spec fundamentally as we’ve been going down this Pwave - Lava burst spam path for too long now.
Here’s some changes & QoL improvements I’d like to see.

Primordial Wave - remove or rework it so it’s not this lame extra FS cast and weird LvB spam AoE thing we have going on.

Rework and remodel Ascendance. Again, LvB spam is boring.

Flame Shock - remove the CD, give two charges or make it easily spreadable. I know ele is not a dot spec but it contributes a decent amount of damage and it should be easy to put on multiple targets just like druids, locks, spriests etc can.
Echo of the elements could give 2 FS charges instead of LvB, or chain lightning could spread it through a talent called ‘static burn’ or something, or lava burst could splash FS to nearby targets or just simply buff LMT…

Lava Burst - Make this thing hit less often but hit hard again! It should scale with crit rating by default. Remove second charge and make it something we cast on CD between LBs. Not just spam instead of LB.

This brings me onto the spec tree. I’m not a fan of half lightning half fire. There should be ways to diversify the spec without being pigeon holed into one element. We should weave them all, no matter what path we take in the tree.

Icefury - remove or rework it. It’s yet another button to bloat the spec and feels clunky. Adding frost spells is cool but there must be a way to do something fun with frost shock without adding another casted spell to keybind like Icefury.

Earthquake - feels awkward to have to cast it so frequently in AoE with a reticle. This may be controversial but I think it would be cool if Earth shock became the AoE spender, triggering an earthquake under the targets feet reducing the need to cast a targeted spell so often (Like they are testing with shadow crash). Elemental Blast could then become the hard hitting ST spender.

Bring back Earthen Rage. Some may say it was boring but I thought it was thematic and looked cool.

Mastery - most specs get a direct % damage increase from their mastery. Ele just has a % chance for extra damage to happen. It would be nice if mastery rating also increased the damage of overloads slightly on top of the % chance increase.

New talent: Chain of elements.
Basically chain harvest with a new elemental visual. This could apply flame shocks with a follow on talent and give us some burst AoE every 45 seconds or so. You could even merge this with Pwave to make the next LvB hit all targets struck.

New talent: Skyfury Totem.
Copied from PvP talents but would probably need to be weaker in PvE, maybe a 2min CD?
Or just some kind of raid buff for all 3 specs. It’s long overdue…

Hoping to see a new alpha build over the next week or two with much needed shaman changes, particularly elemental. Currently feels like farseer was built for Resto and stormbringer was built for Enhance. Ele is left in the gutter.

Considering how hard it is to get into any group content on ele because of the non existent group utility I’d like to propose a new talent…name it: Conductor and make it so that whenever an elemental shaman overloads we charge one of our allies attacks with lightning making them deal additional nature damage for 10 seconds.

I mean it wouldn’t be much but it would sure be flavorful:P

This post has a lot of very good suggestion but unfortunately it took more time for the author to write it than time blizzard is willing to spend on shamans for tww

I disagree. If you “weave them all” then turns out that you have multiple spells that do the exact same thing.

What is the difference between Lightning Bolt and Lava Burst then? That one is blue and the other one red?

Because they both do the same thing : Cast and get Maelstrom… Thats it…

Its the synergies between those spells that matter. And of course, you cant have the same synergies everywhere. On one side you want those synergies to benefit Lightning spells, and on the other those synergies to benefit Fire spells.

To the point where if you go one way or the other you end up using those spells 90% of the time.

Otherwise there is no “choice” anywhere.

What should happen is :

Lightning lean towards fast-paced low CD Cleave AoE. While fire leans towards slow casted hard hit spells and Funnel AoE.

But a ST roation of lightning builds should NOT include Lava Burst or Flame Shock at all. At best maybe a proc or something. And fire builds should NOT include any Lightning Spells at all.

That’s fair if that is what you’d enjoy.

I 'd just rather stay away from an entire fire build spamming LvB otherwise I’d just roll a fire mage or destro lock. Though I understand the appeal of a Storm build especially with the Stormbringer Hero talents coming.

But for me, I wanna play an Elemental shaman, not a Storm Shaman/Fire Shaman

Yeah… but while Fire and Destro also throw flaming balls, they are very different specs.

And play differently.

So its pure esthetic what you are saying there.

With that said: I never said “choose between lightning or spamming LvB”…

What I said is that we need to focus more on some aspects. We can still weave things in between, but currently it makes no sense to try and cast everything at once.

If fire mage was in our situation, it would be as if he needed to cast frost spells to do more damage with fire spells. And in the end, turns out that he does nothing at all and has a massive button bloat (fireball == frost bolt).

So we need to focus a bit. Not spam LvB all day…

There are couple suggestions to implement…

  • It will be nice to see change on earthquake playstyle, to be like 40yards range around the character and followed, like Balance druid’s starfall.
  • In addition to that please give to elemental shaman back Stormlash totem as it was before but in better version such as “Summons an Air Totem at the feet of the caster, empowering allies within 40 yards with lightning. While empowered, allies’ spells and attacks will trigger bursts of electricity, dealing additional Nature damage to their target. Lasts as long as shaman keeps it up(like enhancements windfurry totem) or 3min cooldown with duration of 30sec depending of damage empowerement balance.”… or
  • Or make one common raid buff totem (like stormlash that buffs mellee and spell attacks for all allies not for 5 man only like windfurry totem)and place it in general shaman talent tree… to avoid raid roster conflict for taking more than one shamans in raid groups.

Those changes to my opinion will make elemental shaman unique and fun again in m+,raid and pvp enviroments.
