I’ve been thinking recently on demonology warlocks, and the biggest complaints that I have seen across the board recently are that you’re generally locked into playing with a felguard because it is a demonology warlocks signature demon which has talents specially crafted for it and that because you’re locked into using your felguard, you lack the interrupt that affliction and destruction get with a felhunter.
Therefore I would like to table the idea of making Felguard a secondary pet, working in a way which is akin to Beastmastery Hunters animal companion. Your felguard will use felstorm whenever it is off cooldown, toggling its damage aura and axe toss becoming unique demonic command abilities; when using demonic strength or soulstrike, the felguard will interact with the ability in the same way that it always does, charging at the target you directed it to use the ability on.
This way, demonology warlocks will be free to summon imps, succubi, voidwalkers and felhunters without having to sacrifice a large chunk of their DPS; this would allow the warlock to pick demons situationally and of course receive that all important interrupt from the felhunter.
I could imagine that even more flexibility could be drawn from such a change through having a talent akin to master demonologist readded, giving the warlock a buff like pleasure through pain that you can pick up as a PVP talent in BfA depending on which demon you have summoned so that every demon is useful in its own way.
What are your thoughts on this? Would such changes make demonology more engaging and solve some of its glaring annoyances/weaknesses?
