Wheather I’m in skyriding or legacy flying mode summon mount is nearly always summoning a ground mount, then sometimes it fixes itself and correctly summons flying mounts
This is when in dragon isles outdoors
Both ground and flying mounts are favorited
I’ve tried disabling all addon with the same result
Same problem as well, tried in both flight modes but only a ground mount will spawn when in Dragon Isles, works as intended in any other location.
This is only using steady flight because I only use steady flight, but the random mount button from the game only summons Otherworldy Ottuk Carrier for me.
The other mounts work with steady flight, I just need to select them manually to us an add-on to summon a random one.
I tried to find out when it happens and it seems to be that as soon as I am in steady flight I get ground mounts when clicking Random Mount. When I go back to Skyriding it still summons ground mounts. But when I have zoned (like used a portal) it is fixed (when in Skyriding). This is a bug after 11.0 was installed, so I hope Blizzard will pick it up and fix it again. It always worked perfectly.
Tip: if it won’t behave anymore because of a glitch in the code: make 4 different random mounts: ground, underwater, steady flight and skyriding.

Our developers are aware of an issue where only ground mounts will be summoned when using the Summon Random Favorite Mount option, and are working on a fix for a future patch. If you encounter another bug in game, please do report it to our developers, and they’ll be able to check this out for you.

I had this problem and fixed it after tracing back my steps. If I switch from Skyring to Steady at the stairs to the Orgrimmar Portal Room, I can only summon random ground mounts from then on. Switching riding style there to Skyriding again fixes the issue. I then changed to Steady in a place outdoor where I can summon mounts and I could summon all mounts again.
It seems like switching styles in a place where you cannot ride a mount might be causing this.
Has a fix been sorted yet because its now September and this is still happening.
What exactly are you guys doing?
One suggestion I have for folks affected by this and who are open to using addons is to take a look at the Litemount addon.
This offers a random mount function that’s smarter (and customizable) than the built in version and is happily not affected by this issue.
I’ve been using this to get round the completely broken mount summoning in steady flight mode.
If I don’t use it the only mount that appears is the ottuk. If I favourite multiple mounts it is too stupid to work out when I need flying/ground etc mounts.
So I gave up and went back to the addon I had to use in DF to avoid dragon riding mounts but for different reasons this time.
I’ve been using Lite mount since Shadowlands - I think.
It’s logic for what it summons is IMO just smarter than the built in version (even when it was working correctly).
Totally recommend that mount fans give it a try!
I had to go back to Litemount after they broke summon random mount for Steady Flight with prepatch. I basically get only the Otterworldy Ottuk on random from Blizz.
I might give that one a go. I just use a lot of addons already so do try to reduce the number if I can. It’s a bit sad that I’m having to use addons to fix bugs. It’s bad enough having to use addons for base UI stuff that isn’t fully fit for purpose.
We are already using addons (obimount) in order to link mounts, because otherwise everyone receives and sees a giant wall of random code. Something a random guy in basement can figure out in 10 lines of code and a company of this size cannot solve for 2 years.
I mean … to save them the work … they could just use the code from the addon. Literally someone has done their job for them. All they have to do is incorporate it.
Thank you for that recommendation by the way. I’ve been using Litemount since and, other than a bit of confusion on my part on how to actually place a button on my bars for it (like you do for the standard Blizzard random favourite mount button), it’s worked perfectly.
It’s a bit sad when you have to resort to addons to just simply FIX the game.
